I don’t believe anyone can be this incompetent for so long without a motive or a plan.
This is Boris you're talking about!JeffreyD said:
What do they achieve by stopping people going on holiday?
I am genuinely at a loss as to what the upside is.
It is a quandary. On the face of it they don’t want us bringing back more virus, but that’s twaddle based on the data, and what other countries are doing. I am genuinely at a loss as to what the upside is.
Getting in to conspiracy theories, it could be green/climate related agenda (which Johnson is aligned to) and wanting to destroy the low cost airline carrier industry. This leads on to the them and us, rich and the plebs agenda, because only the rich would then be able to travel to the same extent going forward. Like it was in the 50’s and 60’s. We’ve seen a lot of this rich and plebs agenda recently with the G7 knees up, Ascot and Wembley. They even changed the law this week to allow UEFA VIP’s to visit the UK without quarantining for the final.
It’s very difficult to understand where this is going presently and why.

Making you spend money in the UK to help our deficit.
Whilst simultaneously fking an entire business sector, pissing off millions of people and wasting the "vaccine rollout" success. It's not much of a plan, so I suppose it could be a Johnson plan.
This is exactly what happens when you have no strategic plan and lurch from one short term decision to the next.

Companies like EasyJet and Ryanair wouldn't just go under due to no flights from the UK. People from outside the UK catch flights too.

It seems many in the cabinet like shapps wanted to follow the traffic light (and amber watch list) plan and add to the green list last review but Hancock had to look tough and able to make tough choices before he appeared in front of the select committee. I am genuinely at a loss as to what the upside is.
Impossible to tell though as the government refuse to engage with the travel and tourism industry or share any information about how these decisions are made to help in planning, the U.K. airlines and U.K. travel industry plus U.K. airports and all the associated U.K. companies they support have to be ready for a restart (selling flights and holidays and having employees trained and ready to go) but with no confidence in what the government will do next or if they will even follow their own plans.
The whole idea of the traffic light system was to avoid people getting stuck abroad when statuses changed via the amber watch list and to give people confidence has been suddenly abandoned with no rationale given, presumably it’s just for internal political posturing.
It’s massively damaging to U.K. companies and not helping the U.K. economy at all. This is all about looking tough on the virus for the inevitable inquiries, despite the fact that the time for these restrictions has passed and the vaccine has shown to be effective against these new variants.
Northern Ireland publishes new green list countries (England and Wales to follow??)
