heh heh heh!
Sounds a great trip!
We have friends out in Les Arcs right now having a great time - the first lift gives the greatest runs, it appears!

Yeah, much easier to ski pissed than snowboard pissed.

Point yourself downhill and fall over at the end of the slope.

I'm 100% too old to learn how to ski. It's taken nearly 20 years to be able to Snowboard smile

And snowboarding has the steeper, faster learning curve, so yeah, you'd need another 40 years to ski. wink

It's been a while since I've done a ski holiday with an expanding family and then COVID.

Looking to book a trip next winter/spring with a group of mates. I'm a bit passed it drinking all night and skiing all day but trying to come with a short list that offers a varied ski area and some decent nightlife if we want it. The group is mostly on piste intermediates, once upon a time I was advanced, plenty of guided off piste etc but had a couple of knee injuries since then so quite happy just pootling around on piste.

Towards the end of March is probably the preference so shouldn't really rule anywhere out for snow-suredness.

St Anton-been cracking area believe a new connection has opened up Lech and Zurs without the need for buses/taxis

Ishgl-Been a while since I've been could fit the bill?

Saalbach-as above

Solden-Last played I skied on a mini tour of Austria this was late April and skiing was possible down to the town still on a couple of thin slithers of snow.

France. Done most of the big interconnected French resorts Tignes, 3V, La Plagne.

I'm not really focusing on France too much as although there are places with decent night life IME you need a second mortgage.

It's why for the lads trip we focus on Austria, cheaper and better apres.

You seem have most of the bases covered in your list, but we also include Mayrhofen, Kitzbuhel and Gerlos in our rotation, so potentially worth a look. We also try to keep the resort within circa 2 hours of Munich airport which makes weekend trips easier.

It will be a week. Of those I've done Kitzbuhel, It might have changed but there was one lift that was always a daily bottleneck getting back to the home run.

Assuming you mean Ischgl then yes, it would be perfect. While it does have some excellent off piste it's proper off piste rather than side/between piste and 90% of the ski area are cruising blues and reds, with little in the way of cat tracks claiming to be runs. Night life is plentiful and varied and while you CAN stay up till breakfast in a night/strip club if you want to most people do the classic Austrian apres of ski till 4/straight to the bar till 7/back to the hotel or on to a restaurant for food till 10/in bed by 10:30/up at 8 for breakfast, feeling good. And if you don't fancy an apres party one night just drop in to one of the big hotel bars for wine and cocktails. The main thing with Ischgl is if you walk in a bar and it's not your thing just move on to the next one as there are loads to choose from and they are all different, sometimes only slightly other times radically, and you'll find one that 'fits'.

Hi guys, I'm looking to book somewhere for next February half-term now if possible, in case places start getting fully booked. This Feb, lots of people didn't travel because of various Covid Pass rule uncertainty but I'm expecting 2023 to be rammed.

I'm not on a budget so can travel anywhere in Europe. I've got 3 kids and we are all beginner level and would all want want 1-to-1 tuition. We are not bothered about après ski just as long as we are in a decent 4/5 star hotel and have the slopes close by.

An extra bonus would be in the airport transfer to the resort is under 1 hour one of my kids gets car sick, but it's not a big deal as we have Kwells for her which usually does the trick.

Thanks

Think you might struggle a little already - but it really depends. Try snowfinders.co.uk - they should be working today, so may well be worth a phone call. We've used them for the past 4-5 trips and are using them for next year, but we are going in April. They will usually take all the info. you can give them and come up with a few options to suit. Their website is a bit woeful, but a phone call and subsequent emails usually get things booked and done.

I'd book here : https://www.murmeli.at/

Proper ski-in / ski-out, no cars in resort (Oberlech), extremely snow-sure, hotel chef (Wolfgang) serves Michelin quality food, you can book private ski instructors via the hotel who will come to the hotel to pick you and your children up in the morning. The Alberg ski area is beautiful. There is an excellent toboggan run from Oberlech down to Lech which is fun for the evening. Ski numbers are limited so you don't get the level of queues you get in France at half-term.

You arrive in the resort (Lech), park your car in the underground carpark, and then get a cable car up to Oberlech - it's a magical place.

The only problem with trying to get a booking is they are likely to be already full with returning customers (I used to go every Christmas and New Year and they had a reserve list if any of the regulars ever dropped out). However, with covid it might give you an opportunity to get a booking.

There are other larger hotels in Oberlech, many which are more expensive, but I think this the best option (although it doesn't have a swimming pool).

But it's rubbish for beginners.

Morzine is as quick from Geneva and much better.

Flaine would be another option about an hour from Geneva, not sure about the hotels but somewhere in the concrete jungle there must be a 4 or 5 star one somewhere!

Likely to be cheaper than most other options, certainly cheaper than Chamonix.

If budget really isn't an issue then get a transfer to Courchavel and fly in, fly out. Certainly some nice hotels there too.

The skiing is very much beginner level and I haven't been to this hotel for about 15 years, but it still looks the part on its website. I recall the food being excellent.

https://www.bergland-seefeld.at

It's 25 minutes from Innsbruck airport.

Really? I thought I was being clever by getting in 6 months early but are you seeing resorts fully booked up?

After last year's COVID debacle - I caught it on the 2nd full day. No one else in the group did. We drove home and eventually my girlfriend caught it - we are trying again with Meribel. Have an AirBnB with hot tub booked near the Rondpoint from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve. I think we'll leave Zurich on the Thursday evening and overnight in Annecy and visit the markets etc and head up the mountain on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning before the changeover rush.

Think I'm going to treat myself to some new boots. My current ones are 12 years old and destroyed toe nail on the first and only day of skiing I did there. The nail eventually fell off with a bit of coaxing 6 months later!

Get your self to Heierling in Davos for boots - it's just behind the BMW dealer at the foot of the Fluela.
