Driving to/through France from UK right now

I get so infuriated with the advice.
Especially when you hear "if not now, then when". Funny how it relates to some things and not others. If we're taking that mentality, open everything back up. Feels so odd to of not been abroad for almost a year now.
Really missing the several trips a year down to the Mediterranean.

You want odd, how about not seeing your parents and sister for over 18 months, your brother and many friends for over two years? How about none of them meeting your 18 month old daughter yet? Hopefully, about to change next week but its been a long time.Especially when you hear "if not now, then when". Funny how it relates to some things and not others. So the latest guidance appears to be, come back via France, isolate for 10 days. AND, do 2 tests with no option to release??
It is not guidance, it is the rule.RedWhiteMonkey said:

Just arrived in SW France after overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen. At check-in in Portsmouth we were 3rd in the queue (got there very early), first car went through in about 3 minutes then the elderly lady on her own in front of us still wasn't processed after 15 minutes and was eventually directed away from the check-in area and it was apparent that she didn't have all the required documentation. The documentation that was checked were ticket, passport, vaccine certificate with clear details of date and vaccine type for both jabs and the Attestation in French and we were through in less than 3 minutes. On the French side it was very quick with a check of the passport (and stamped), the Attestation and the Vaccine certificate and we were on our way with a friendly merci, have a nice day from the border police. Roads down the the A10 were traffic free until Tours then a bit slow all the way to Poitiers with lots of camper vans and caravans heading south (mainly Dutch, Belgian and German).
We cancelled our trip through France. We were supposed to leave on Thursday, but decided we couldn't face the quarantine on the way back. It means we've wasted a lot of money on tests - most of which it turns out wouldn't have been needed anyway. We usually drive through France to Carcassonne, stay there for a week or so and drive to Spain and camp. Apparently there was no checking on the French/Spanish border.
We've arranged to go to Wales instead - but it seems like there are rumblings of France coming off the amber plus list soon. Leak or hopeful rumours... I supposed time will tell.

We are still unsure.
From reading, it looks like the next government review of lists is on the 5th, not sure how accurate this is though.
We would then go if all clearish via France to Italy for less than 3 weeks before rule change again (in theory)... Quarantine we is no ideal but at home we could make wOrk. Obviously not ideal, but well it's been over a year since Mrs and daughter saw family in Italy, so it becomes worth the potential ball ache

I was really hoping to do France, Germany and Luxembourg this year, using discounts which id been given against lost camping deposits last year (they were open, we couldn't travel so they gave discount which would have equalled the deposit). Unfortunately I just couldn't afford to have the situation of quarantine with work. We booked Scotland instead and currently a week in. We've had an amazing week in the Cairngorms and the weather has been unbelievable. At times, we've felt like we've been on the continent. Hopefully get overseas again next year.
We’re hopefully coming over for 3 weeks from France for the first time in a year. I won’t make a comment on the specific quarantine rule for France except to say that I’ve heard some say that the people who put it in place are a bunch of s.
On this very thread there seems to be disagreement as to whether the test to release racket can be used. You know, where you pay extra money to make the (probably) non-existent virus miraculously go away.
A work colleague’s parents paid for a test to release but apparently didn’t get the results back until the 10th day anyway.
Anyone have experience of this?
Also are we obliged to have any apps or info on smartphones?

Same here, I cancelled the tunnel ticket last week (still waiting for acknowledgment of refund, takes 10 days apparently) as soon as the 10 day mandatory quarantine rule kicked in, plus all the tests, the costs were becoming ridiculous. We've arranged to go to Wales instead - but it seems like there are rumblings of France coming off the amber plus list soon. I've sorted out some acomodation in Snowdonia with some associated adventure activites with my 2 lads for a few days.

We're in the same position. Coming Wednesday, first time in 18 months for me. We've chosen to spend extra for the test to release and are doing it in person at Boots just to improve our chances of actually finishing quarantine earlier. We also know someone who paid for it but didn't get the results for several days and it was claimed that it was due to delays in the sample getting to the lab. Don't know about the apps stuff. We have them but this being France we'll have apps and hard copy.On this very thread there seems to be disagreement as to whether the test to release racket can be used. Was it very complicated to get the paperwork and tests booked (day 2 and day 8). Do all the Boots do the test to release thing and how much did it cost? Sorry for all the questions! Will follow closely, please keep us updated
We've opted for tests online/by post for the two and eight as we'll be less worried if they're late...in theory. Lots of options and I think going on reviews we picked the wrong one but a couple of others that I looked at had awful websites that I really didn't want to share my card details with. I was booking for 4 of us and it was slow and painful but not difficult. Boots test and release was £85 each but like I said I hope it brings some confidence. It looks like most Boots will do it but. My closest one had no appointments available for several days after my day 5 but luckily there is another Boots still only 10 miles away that did. Just been for our PCR tests in France and waiting to see what comes up.https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9825779/D...

A good bit of speculation given that you still need to quarantine even with U.K. jabs if travelling from France.Daily Mail seems to be suggesting that expats who have had both jabs won't have to quarantine if entering the UK after 1st August...
Anything could happen, but the article seems to have no factual base
