Yesterday was cr@p. It wasn’t that it rained all day, it wasn’t the hills, it wasn’t even the garbage food I had a Drago Mills outlet. I had a great off road route planned avoiding A roads and using all public footpaths.
They should take down all public footpath signs in Cornwall. Any that cross farm land or private land will have been blocked off by the landowner. Even if you've walked miles on the path and there is no alternative. They should have the decency to put up a sign saying “I've blocked this path a mile further on” to stop you committing to it. So for large chunks of the walk I was forced onto the A38. Think rain, lorries, spray and no verge.
Anyway enough moaning. Today was great. Apart from the fact that the sun returned, most walking was on quiet lanes and I had a b&b to look forward to. Now in Callington and I reckon I leave Cornwall tomorrow and enter Devon. Found a laundrette and all I need tomorrow is a barber that does shaves snd I’ll be almost presentable.
I feel for you, obstructed, unclear paths are a right royal pita. https://www.relive.cc/view/vYvrLLw3dL6

You can report on line footpaths that have been closed, blocked off by land owners.
The council should then send out the rights of way officer, armed with a loaded shot gun, pointed at the farmer and screaming at him, until he fixing the stiles, and puts up new signs. If he's too slow, or argues the RoW officer should shoot the farmers dog (unless it's on a lead)
Works both ways right ? I say this respectfully, having got completely lost once on the moors, when the path coukd have been.a peat bog and the peat bog could have been the path, and resorted to just following North on.my compass, which brought me out relived that I wasn't still lost in the fog, into a farm yard. And the farmer clearly thought we were some sort of criminally intent bd, carrying rabies and swine flu in our waterlogged rucksacks.
And to balance it, not all farmers are like that obviously, like the one, who, we asked where the nearest bus stop was (about a mile, next bus in 2 hours) and saw us supporting someone to walk who it turned out had broken his ankle.
He must have said something to his wife, because about 20.mins later he caught up with us in his land rover, and took us all to the hobble in centre, some 20 miles away. went and did some shopping , dropped our injured off at the railway station and then gave the remaining 2 of us, a lift back to the path.
Next year will be 40 years since I did the pennine way. I wonder.
I doff my cap to you i4got, that's some stroll you're on and I hope all goes well.
I'm reminded of autumn 2019 when we drove LEJOG via B-roads in our '63 Riley, stopping at B&Bs en route. At breakfast at one in Dingwall we started chatting to another guest who said he was walking end-to-end. Sure enough, after we'd refuelled we passed him on a country road, striding along in the morning sunshine. We reckon he was in his late 60s but he looked about 20 years younger.

Me too! If it wasn't for life's commitments (financial and family), I feel like I have an epic walk/adventure in me. Was also envious of the chap on here who was doing the South West Coast Path. Sadly, life gets in the way.It makes me want to do it now!!

Had a short 10 mile day into okehampton along the granite way. Staying at a YHA as no camping available. Means a slightly longer day tomorrow.
Never been here before and I love it. Granite way is a great walk or cycle and the town has a good feel to it. Nicest I’ve been to so far on this trip.
Enjoying this at the Wetherspoons in the sun.
Got a camp site booked for tomorrow night then ther’re few and far between for the next few nights- sandford and bickleigh. So may need to find b&b or pub.

If anyones interested, here are details of what I’m carrying. I’ve since added walking poles, a woolly hat and a sleeping bag liner so rucksack weight comes in at just under 8kg.
I have a bum bag as well so I can go to the pub in the evening and take my important stuff with me.
