Darn, beaten to it! Are you going to stop at JoG, OP, or are you tempted to carry on to Duncansby Head, just because it's there?

For the sake of 40 minutes I might as well.

Just idly wondering if anyone has ever attempted walking Broadstairs to Cape Wrath? Fewer miles maybe, but nice and flat until you get to Sheffield or so, I'd have thought!
Dull as you like though!

With all the calories you must be burning, are you allowing yourself to eat anything and everything, or has your appetite shrunk?

Also, some of the LEJOG books and blogs I've read refer to people feeling very sad on their last day as they walk to JOG, knowing their adventure is coming to an end and normal life will soon resume. I can imagine that's true.

Pretty much eat and drink what I want. Having said that, particularly when camping I haven’t really had good food access nearby so end up having mainly sandwiches. My beer intake is up a lot so I’ll have to watch that when I’m finished.

Just realised the canal path goes all the way through Wolverhampton today SW to NE. It it a safe walk or do I need to speak to a gang leader to negotiate safe passage? smile I’ve become accustomed to rural idylls over the last week or so.

I think much of that is fairly rural in character despite looking like it goes right through Wolverhampton.

You’re absolutely right. I’m about two thirds through Wolverhampton and no urban sprawl. I was expecting something like Manchester or Birmingham where the canals go through the centre. Downside is no pubs or cafes. Got a Spar coffee at compton and nothing since.

Looks like I have a pub about a mile further - the Anchor Inn. I can last another 20 minutes.

There’s a nice pub called the Mermaid at Wightwick but you’ve already passed that. Not been to the Anchor (I assume you’re referring to the pub in Coven) but Brewod is quite pleasant if you stay on the towpath a bit longer, and has a few pubs.

Cheers for that. The Anchor has a garden, Timmy Taylor Landlord and beef brisket sandwiches. I’m here for a while smile and the suns come out.

Think I miss Brewood. I leave the path today at Calf Heath to stay the night at some trucker motel on the A5. Then I rejoin tomorrow a bit further up.

Ah, I was thinking of the other canal - there are two close together in your vicinity.

Are you going up the canal towards Stafford tomorrow? There are pubs in Penkridge and the Moat House hotel at Acton Trussell has a nice bar, but all probably a bit early in the day. There’s a really nice Wimpy at Milford on the edge of Cannock Chase; you may laugh at the suggestion but it’s a little chalet which is in a pretty location.

Not sure I'd be able to consume beer like you're doing OP, I'd be in the undergrowth every 5 minutes answering nature's call!

Yes I’m heading to Great Haywood tomorrow. I had actually noticed the Wimpey on google maps. Good to have it recommended. Thinks there's a pub called Barley Mow but looks a bit further from the canal and the website looks a bit uninspiring.
