Great read OP.
Are you skirting the west of the Peaks?
Just looking at the route from Chapel to Hebden, straight line goes through Glossop ('unique' place ), then over the Woodhead and over the M62.
Keep walking
I’m trying to get to Silsden so I can take the Dales Way as it curves round west towards Windermere. Are you skirting the west of the Peaks?

All the interim stops from Great Haywood to Silsden were just picked at random as a route that would eventually get me to Silsden.
I passed through Glossop today as it was the half way point in my journey from Hayfield to Crowden. It was quite an early stop so I popped into Wetherspoons (the Smithy Fold) for a breakfast. I was the only customer on coffee though, even at that time. They probably all thought ‘Look at that snob’.
Had a quick pint stop a bit later in Hadfield at the Peels Arms - thats a nice pub.

Tomorrow will be a big of a slog for you I suspect - I have done part of what you will be walking many years ago when I was younger as part of a challenge walk although not after all the miles you have down so far.
Where is the camp site you are aiming for as I will be around the area tomorrow although can’t be specific as it depends where the NHS send me to pick patients up!

It’s called Valley View campsite. About 4 mile northeast of Slaithwaite.Where is the camp site you are aiming for as I will be around the area tomorrow although can’t be specific as it depends where the NHS send me to pick patients up!

I’ve had a look at the route and I’m worried I’ve bitten off more than I can chew. I’m thinking Pennine Way due north from Crowden to the A635. Then Wessenden Head Road to Meltham. Then try and find some quiet roads to stagger the last 6 miles or so. I see the campsite is really close to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. That is very comforting.Where is the camp site you are aiming for as I will be around the area tomorrow although can’t be specific as it depends where the NHS send me to pick patients up!
Anyone know if the Wessenden Head Road is walkable?
I do have an option. If I pass a campsite with a vacancy I could bail early and forego my booked site.
Another concern is food options. Doesn't look like theres much in the first half of they day but I think theres a food van on the A635.

You learn something every day - I didn’t know it was there and have driven close to it many a time!Depending on what time you arrive, then I may be passing.
On your other question, I have walked on part of the Wessenhead road and from memory it isn’t too busy although you will need to watch out for cars that may be taking advantage of the road.
That said, there isn’t really another option that I can see sadly..
Can’t help with regard to food places - you will be ok at Meltham for sure. Can’t vouch for any of the pubs as I am in the Halifax area rather than Huddersfield.

I’ve had a rethink and replan. I’m going to stick on the Pennine Way and carry on to Diggle. I’ll stay in a hotel there - get a guaranteed dinner and breakfast, and then the next day continue on the PW to Hebden Bridge where I’ll be back on plan.
It will still be a tough two days but much more achievable.

Probably a wise move - getting to Heiden Bridge from Huddersfield wouldn’t have been that easy, especially when you want to keep off road and easier walking as well.
As you say, 2 hard days but it will be a well trodden trail and hopefully the weather will be kind to you. It can get a bit breezy on some of the tops.
On a clear day I can see Stoodley Pike from near me and am walking it with my daughter in a couple of weeks so will raise a can to you then.
Shame I won’t be able to meet you but I have just topped your fund raising efforts up to £1,000.
Keep on walking - I am sure you will make it.

Hebden Bridge....*shudder*
Bike ride took me up the ludicrously steep and cobbled buttress path - 30% incline, and a "walk all the way" bit! Hopefully you won't be yomping up that path!! It was beautiful up at Heptonstall, mind you....the village is like the Hovis Advert!
Our Gold DofE teams have often gone from near where you are up the Pennine Way to Marsden (technically the other way, and usually with a bit planned off the main path to stop it being too easy for them - we use it for their practice, not really enough paths for them).
Marsden is a nice town, but since we start our expeditions there, I can't help you with accommodation options!

Thank you for that.

Now in Diggle which I’ll confess I’d never heard of till yesterday. Only 13 miles today but pretty brutal. Pennine Way all the way - no pubs, cafes or shops. So sandwich day.
And the weather was not good - rain gear all the way. Even the odd clear patch didn’t last long. Ended up sitting on a rock in the rain eating a chicken sandwich.
Never mind that though - I’m now in a pub with rooms - hot dinner, breakfast.
Need to sort out packed lunch or something for tomorrow. Another day on the PW and I assume no food options en route.

I did feel for you today as I was driving in some pretty unpleasant weather in the hills to the east of your route - I drove through Meltham! At least you have a hotel tonight.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day - looks like 15 miles of walking and again a slog.
There is the White House where the PW crosses the A58 although not sure how long it will take you to get there in terms of lunch. I reckon it is about 8 miles from Diggle but I don’t know your walking speed.
The PW crosses the A672 after 5 miles or so and if you know what time you might be there, I may be able to meet you there and bring you anything you might need. There is a car park but can’t remember if a food truck there or not.
