Vango 100 sleeping bag?!
No wonder you're feeling the nip at night!
Yeah with hindsight not my greatest choice. I’ve had it for years and was going to get a new one for this trip. The one I wanted was out of stock and I got an email to say it was back in stock after I’d set off. No wonder you're feeling the nip at night!
This is the one I should have got. Pricey but worth it.

The husband of a woman Mrs WR knows on a fb motorhome forum is doing LEJOG and set off about the same day as you.
His Mrs is following him in their motorhome, and he sleeps in that each night.
I think he is about 100 miles in
Expects to take around two months.
Your wife's friend isn’t called June is she?His Mrs is following him in their motorhome, and he sleeps in that each night.

If anyones interested, here are details of what I’m carrying. I’ve since added walking poles, a woolly hat and a sleeping bag liner so rucksack weight comes in at just under 8kg.
I have a bum bag as well so I can go to the pub in the evening and take my important stuff with me.

Very interesting. 8kg’s isn’t too bad. Food and water? I have a bum bag as well so I can go to the pub in the evening and take my important stuff with me.

Half litre of water and an emergency sandwich or two. Generally hope to pass enough pubs, shops to stock up as i go. And i use the Refill app which has worked well for water.

How times evolve. I did the Pennine Way in 1983 (two of us sharing items like the tents etc). OK we had to carry gas and dried meals for some of the wild camps.........we struggled to get our rucksacks below 20kg!!!!I have a bum bag as well so I can go to the pub in the evening and take my important stuff with me.

Are you doing this for a good cause as well, got a just giving page or anything or just self motivation?
Had a mare arranging camping or accommodation for the next few nights on my planned route.
So rather than Sandford and Bickleigh, I’ll be stopping at Crediton then Tiverton. Don’t think I fancy doing Tiverton to Taunton in one day so probably I’ll sort out camping at Samford Peverell.

Wow, what a trip. If you’re passing North Somerset/Bristol/South Glos let me know your route and I’ll gladly help however possible!
Logistics for that sleeping bag etc too, if you were coming this way you could order anything else you need as the trip progresses and I’ll drop it within a decent radius from home.
Thanks BB I’ll be heading up glastonbury and through bath. Logistics for that 4 day stretch are great. My wife is parking the motorhome in Wells and for 4 nights from Glastonbury she’ll ferry me to and from my stage points. Walking without a rucksack! I also decided and bought the new sleeping bag and she’ll bring it over. Have you tried the pubs you are going to for your evening meal for camping?
I would guess most would let you camp in the pub garden if they have one, if they know you’re walking the length of the country? Saw a few quid too.
Thats on my list of options. Was supposed to do that in South Zeal last night but their camping field wasnt open yet.I would guess most would let you camp in the pub garden if they have one, if they know you’re walking the length of the country? Saw a few quid too.

I do a lot of (car) camping and have a 20yr Trangia cooking set that I've taken all over the place, it's like an old friend. I sometimes daydream about doing such a trip and taking that with me, cooking up a meal each night at camp with food bought en route each day, even if it's just something simple like a tinned chilli con carne or similar. However I guess that's a considerable size and weight to carry?
Looking at something smaller like the Jetboil comes in at 520g, does carrying that kind of thing make a significant difference?
Good luck, following with interest!
By the time you add the brukit, gas, plate, cutlery, cup, coffee and food and cooking water it could add more than a couple of kg. My pack is only 48 litres and I’ve had some upper back problems so something had to give. Its a shame as I love stopping for a coffee en route.

After tonight I’m in Airbnb then a Premier Inn due to lack of sites.
Ten days in and 140 miles done. Looking forward to my first rest day but thats not for another 9 days.

There was definitely a photo of a pub towards the end. Latest video.

I stopped there in the afternoon on the way in and it was closed for a wake. They served me a couple of pints if I sat outside.
Fortunately a friendly mourner smoking outside popped back in and nabbed me a couple of sandwiches from the buffet .

I have a campsite on the Cotswold Way in Stroud if that's any use to you?:

Near good pubs too! Gratis of course - let me know through FB if it suits and I'll send you directions.
Thats really generous thanks. Currently my plan is to walk to Stonehouse, then get a train to Gloucester and stay overnight there. My daughter will drive to Gloucester, we get train back to Stonehouse and walk together back to Gloucester. If that plan changes I’ll certainly get in touch and again thanks. https://www.facebook.com/Stroudcampsite

Had a look at the usual route that people seem to take and it seems a bit strange ( to me ) to go from Carlisle to Edinburgh then back across to Glasgow before heading north.
What’s the reasoning behind this? Why wouldn’t you just go Carlisle to Glasgow or Edinburgh to Inverness? Is it based on set walking routes?
Most people want to go the West Highland way to Fort William and then the great glen way to inverness. They’re good well marked paths but as you say, adds a long western diversion. What’s the reasoning behind this? Why wouldn’t you just go Carlisle to Glasgow or Edinburgh to Inverness? Is it based on set walking routes?
