I now know exactly where it is, but i googled the gym in the pic based on my previous guess. I'm not sure if googling something you can see on the pic is against the rules?

Google wouldn't have worked if I hadn't got close geographically first

So its south island New Zealand as per my guess before I googled.

PS. I could tell it wasn't France or Malaysia etc as the signage is in English. On my screen I can read the road names, and the style reminded me of New Zealand or Aus smile

My understanding of the rules is that you shouldn’t Google anything. I had no idea where it was so looked up the ship and it gave a decent idea of the location…

South Island New Zealand came before Google.

So someone needs to get the place.

As above I used Google to confirm my suspicions. So I will bow out.

For what it's worth, the original intent behind the no-Googling rule was to discourage people from doing a reverse image lookup, or putting clues into a search engine and figuring it out that way. I didn't want the answers to come entirely from internet sleuthing, I wanted them to be from people's personal experience and then maybe we'd get a few stories along the way.

If you think you know the place but just can't remember the name of the town then firing up Google maps to jog your memory is ok imo. Dunno if people agree with that?

Anyway, I didn't think it was possible to take a photo of NZ's south island that didn't look like a postcard but I thought this one was the ferry port between the islands, and Christchurch would have been my second guess, so I suppose I'm out!

Not the picture postcard you expect, this is the industrial side of the south, about 15 miles from a large town/city.

Ok, I'm going to take a guess at Port Chalmers, a few miles outside of Dunedin.

I think I've figured it but only using Google maps and the clues.
