We’re off to Cape Verde on Tuesday for a week. Staying at the Riu Toureg. It wasn’t our first choice of hotel after reading some reviews but the prices suddenly jumped up before we’d booked and our first choice was then out of our budget.

Still can’t wait to go. Haven’t been on holiday for a couple of years so this is much needed.
You will need giggling gecko to get out and away from there.

Definitely use Jenny @ GG for trips. Flights are back on today after a load of recent sand storms. Have a great time smile

Has anyone been to Boa Vista since the thread started?

We went to Boa Vista for a week a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely loved it. We stayed at the Riu Toureg which was great. Plenty of space, food was good, lovely clean pools, staff were all very friendly.

We went on a 4x4 day trip and then the kayaking and scuba diving day trip with Jen at Giggling Gecko. Jen is great and very knowledgable about the island.

As others have mentioned, outside of the hotel complex there’s nothing. Just barren scrubland as far as the eye can see. So it’s definitely worth booking day trips and I can 100% recommend Giggling Gecko.

Out of interest was it actually Jen that was with you? She was in Scotland last time so never actually met her, just lots of FB messages

Yes we had the tours with Jen herself. Her usual guide is heavily pregnant so Jen has swapped roles with her.

On the verge of booking the Riu Karamboa on Boa Vista in September, just got to check my holidays at work on Monday, or if anyone in the next 12 hours says Noooo!

We stated in the Riu Palace next door. My review is earlier in this thread. Hotel grounds physically touch.
Both hotels utilise the facilities of the Riu Karambia once a week for a big themed party.
It's usually very good.
A water park is situated between both hotels, ideal for kids.
Hotel transfer is a couple of minutes as the airport is in sight.
I believe your hotel has been modernised to have similar facilities and decor to the Tui look they promote throughout.

Area is baron.

Stunning beach if you go for a walk. Nearby town is run down.

To the south, about 30 min walk is a very pleasant beach bar. Does decent food and has fire pits and music on some evenings. You may have to book. Drinks are cheap.

One of the group is insisting on Adults Only, obviously the water park will have kids in it, but that was part of the reason for picking that hotel but it seems MASSIVE for adults only scratchchin

Your hotel is adults only.
Ours was for kids as well.
However when we went other than maybe 2 babies I think I saw only 1 child.
Also considering the amount of rooms in both hotels the water park was likely empty.
Unless some adults fancied the slides.
We went end of October to avoid uk school holidays.

I'd happily go again.

As said, Karamboa is now AO, be aware that the water-park has been closed now and again and some people have missed out on it for their whole trip, not sure if that's still an issue. The bars at either side are definitely worth the walk and will give you a chance to swim in water that isn't trying to kill you as the current is really strong at the hotel's part of the beach

Holiday dates have now been confirmed so it looks like it's happening.
Water park being shut isn't a huge issue, I think 6 old farts can live without it, now if the bar was shut that would be an issue. hehe
Swimming is not something I do...if I can't see/feel the floor I'm not going in it, a 'swim up bar' is considered a challenge, and while beaches look quite nice I have a mild disability that make walking on sand a bit of an issue. paperbag

The Tui Hotel we stayed in had pools whereby the water only went to above your waist.
Likely a safety reason for this.
Also avoids the need for lifeguards as I understand.

Made no difference as was easy to swim in.

Yes, chose that one again as Toureg is so far away from anything
