Manchester Airport. How can it be so bad?
Discussion
Flew out of Manchester to Morocco early morning one day last week.
0600 flight so arrived at the airport at 3am thinking we would have time for a leisurely breakfast and a read of the paper...
Made it to the gate just in time with not enough time to even grab a bacon roll. The queue to drop off bags took an hour and a half and must have been getting on for a mile long. Security was then equally chaotic. Complete farce all round.

My daughter has just taken off from Manchester T3 to Madrid for a few days.
Got an email saying get there 3 hours early which she did. Good job as it took 1 1/2 hours to get through security at about 7:30am.
Party in front of her had a flight in 50 minutes and had to be fast tracked through to make their flight.
She was in departures at about 9am, flight at 10:15 so plenty of time.
T3 only been open for 2 weeks I think.
Her return flight is due to land around now.Got an email saying get there 3 hours early which she did. Good job as it took 1 1/2 hours to get through security at about 7:30am.

We'll see how she gets on when arriving at T3.
She only has hand luggage so should be pretty quick.
She must have had a good time, no contact from her the whole time she was there

hopefully our fast track tickets will reduce that
It's like that joke in Come Fly With Me, when they sell Speedy Boarding to some old dear, and then the old dear asks how many other people have bought Speedy Boarding, and gets the reply "everyone" !And they have stopped issuing them at T2
https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/at-the-airport...
But I think if you already have them purchased then you are OK.
I've discovered that all you need to beat the queues is a pram
T2 out of Manchester last month was brilliant. Bags dropped in seconds, straight to the front of the security queue, 30 mins max from parking the car at the Meet and Greet to sitting in the lounge...
Just as quick on the way back, straight to the front of the queue at Orlando, monorail across to the terminal, sitting in the Sky Lounge within about 30 mins.
Only thing we had to do was bag the pram at the gate and let them take it. I wonder if it's worth just buying a cheap pram for these occasions, even if you don't have kids?

Doesn’t surprise me - if everyone bought fast track, then the normal queue would be quicker! And they have stopped issuing them at T2

I always gets ours as part of the car parking so have ours for our next trip which is a 6 am flight.
The issue appears to be the fact that there are a lot of flights leaving first thing which causes the issue as everyone turns up at the same time along with the people for the later flights coming early as they have been told to do so.
Maybe the solution would be for each flight to be given a dedicated check in and security time - not perfect as soon many flights are scheduled to leave at the same time - but there must be a better way to control the flow.

well, i'm off to liverpool airport so let's see if that's any better.....
I'll be interested to hear how you get on; I need to go to Gibraltar and have always flown from Manchester, however I am not prepared to go at the moment because of this utter farce - in fact I'd rather not go via Manchester at all as the place is a money gouging cesspool. Liverpool is probably 10-15 minutes further, I've always preferred it.Chrishum said:
We're flying in 4 weeks time from T1, 7:05 flight and planning to get to the parking for 3. But I'd far rather wait with a drink and some breakfast in the departure lounge than in a queue full of zombies, so if we're not checking bags is fast track worth an extra tenner?
Ryan air say get there 4 hours before... We aim to get there by 2.45am
Maybe better soon as they are recruiting like mad currently

We were planning to go from Birmingham but have been reading some stories from there.
Is anywhere vaguely normal or are they all having issues?

I went through Luton recently, admittedly it was 4am but no queuing anywhere
My son and his girlfriend went through Gatwick on Saturday morning, bags dropped and through security in under an hour

We flew out of Liverpool a month ago, 15 mins from carpark to duty free.Although hardly anything was open after that, very limited options for food.
