I've read that something like 15 conglomerates have expressed an interest in taking over DSA, but it hasn't amounted to a great deal of useful information.

I very much hope that DSA does reopen. It was a cracking little airport.

It had in the past actually been my way of avoiding MAN altogether for flights to the Continent whenever LBA wasn't viable.

I’ve got a project on the go at the moment for Doncaster council, it’s quite a high profile job but it’s getting fk all attention from the council big wigs as they are preoccupied with trying to carry out a compulsory purchase scheme for the airport and get it reopened.

Might have been lucky but I flew out of Manchester twice in last few months and both times it all went flawlessly both ends.

It is tired and run down in places, with limited facilities but I don’t think it necessarily deserves its bad reputation. For balance I flew fortnightly out of Manchester for 7 years 2013-20 and whilst it could be busy in Security I never once was unable to have a meal before my flight or at least grab a Costa breakfast, let alone missed or was late for a flight. Staff on the whole were really nice and my opinion is that they have been caught out very publically a few times with numbers but majority of the time are fine to fly through.

You appear to have been extraordinarily fortunate. I've flown in and out of MAN several times a year since 2002 and my experiences have been almost always dreadful. Bad enough to start this thread, in fact...

I personally don't think the CPO would ever succeed. But it's there to bring Peel to the table on a Lease. Which appears to have worked.

I see it's a while since the last post, but they do now appear to have their act together.

We've just come back from a week in Cyprus;

Arrived about 04:30 on Sunday morning, dropped the car at the M&G (T2), which took no time at all. Check in was almost empty, then the security (with the fast-track thing) had no queue at all. They also seemed less over zealous and I'm sure the last time we flew (4 years ago) when it was those full-body-stand-there-with-your-arms-raised things, but now they just have the arch things.

Coming back, we had fast track passport things, but we did not bother as the normal queue has zero people in it.

So it was very good.

Apart from the shambolic arrival of the plane; it never ceases to amaze me how they often don't seem to know what to do when a plane lands. 25 minutes from landing to get to a stand (some other plane had gone the wrong way according to Captain Bing Bong), so it all got jammed up. That then caused a delay with the bags. So almost 2 hours from landing to collecting my car, but at no time during that 2 hours were we in a queue.

I know of 2 large investors who have looked at turning Blackpool airport back into a passenger hub, no real desire from the council to turn into into a Leeds Bradford airport equivalent

Because it is tiny and not able to support the requirements of being a passenger airport

You’re only supposed to use it for a couple of days or so.

Obviously they where looking at development of the facility.

Councils lack of enthusiasm ended the initial enquiry

Last time I left my car there it was £45 for the same duration. That was 2 years ago.

Paid £161 for parking in T2 west just over a week ago.
It was for 7 days and included the fast track which was probably £10 to £20

For the convenience I thought it was good value. Automated barriers, short walk and ease of getting a space.

I also think T2 terminal is now a fantastic place

I will defend MAN this time in that I don’t think the parking fees are terrible – I’ve just paid £95 for 11 days of parking in the T2 multi story for next month (there was an offer on). The drop off/pick up fees & organisation are diabolical though.

I’ve been through Manchester airport twice this month and security isn’t a problem anymore (it hasn’t been throughout this year for me actually).

However, the rest of the place is an embarrassment. It’s filthy – even when you’re on one of the first flights out in the morning. The place just doesn’t get cleaned properly and the toilets are a disgrace. The food & drink options are pitiful and that’s when the outlets are actually open – I’ve said before that Pret is actually the only place to get anything remotely decent/healthy and I can’t believe I’m actually writing that! Even the tiny kiosks at virtually every other European airport I’ve used have better/fresher produce on tap.

We landed last Sunday but not onto a stand, so steps onto the tarmac in the pouring rain (it happens, that’s fine), but nobody had bothered to open the door into the terminal building so some passengers were stood in the rain next to the aircraft for 10 minutes getting soaked. We arrived just behind the usual Emirates flight and it was carnage at passport control. Large numbers of non UK passport holders flying through on the left hand side whilst there was a log jam for UK passport holders on the right which took around 20 minutes to get through. The chaos continued in the baggage collection area with queues for the tiny, filthy toilets. I thought I was back in Lahore.

I wish I could avoid the place but it’s a means to an end and most other UK airports are no better.

Effortless trip both ways through Liverpool last month - some people complained the easyJet priorty check-in wasn't open but we didn't have that anyway (even though my wife thought it was included in our package). Security was walk-through and so was passport control on the way back. Nothing was notably grubby.

Didn't park there though - booked long-stay initially for something like £65 for the week but cancelled it and used taxis instead. From what I could see of the long stay car park it looked rammed. There's a much more empty one that's 5-10mins walk away but apparently not operated by the airport itself and I'd been in huge trouble with Mrs S if had been raining! I've used some sort of Premier parking there in the past for work but it doesn't seem to exist now.
