The problem is you have no way of knowing if you're going to get this:

The thing that still amazes me is that the people who run airports actually think you can blow a plane out of the sky with an inhaler.
They don't, it's just primarily theatrical bullst to make people who are not thinking feel 'safer'.

The pilot and writer Patrick Smith has some interesting points to make about airport security and aviation generally:

He was once prevented from taking a spoon onto his own aircraft by a security goon on the basis that he was forbidden to take anything onboard that 'could potentially give access to the cockpit'. He was flying the plane.

Might have been lucky but I flew out of Manchester twice in last few months and both times it all went flawlessly both ends.

It is tired and run down in places, with limited facilities but I don’t think it necessarily deserves its bad reputation. For balance I flew fortnightly out of Manchester for 7 years 2013-20 and whilst it could be busy in Security I never once was unable to have a meal before my flight or at least grab a Costa breakfast, let alone missed or was late for a flight. Staff on the whole were really nice and my opinion is that they have been caught out very publically a few times with numbers but majority of the time are fine to fly through.
You appear to have been extraordinarily fortunate. I've flown in and out of MAN several times a year since 2002 and my experiences have been almost always dreadful. Bad enough to start this thread, in fact...
