I had a day up at the lecht yesterday. classic scottish conditions- where the snow was good it was great, but then that was spoiled by some very bare/ brown patches. morning was better, but queue got quite big in the afternoon. but a day with some sliding in the sun, is better than not getting sliding at all! fingers crossed we get a bit more snow this week
Hopefully it'll snow next few days. Probably be up there next weekend.

It is supposed to snow, yellow weather warning tonight across 'Shee and 'Gorm. Not sure about further West.

That said, and not wanting to derail the thread, I've booked some sunshine next week rather than another trip to the slopes. fk skiing in the rain, or on slush.

the forecast looks like they should catch a some snow, so fingers crossed. also they don’t need a huge amount to fall, just enough to cover the brown patches on some of the runs. it’s was definitely a decent day out on saturday

Just back from a week in Val Gardena - 2weeks earlier than last year - 95% open and good at start of week but very slushy afteroons towards end of week - miniscule new snow - hope they get some or they will be wrapping up early!
VG was very good at half term as it was colder, so the snow was excellent on piste. I hope they get a top up. Was my first time there - such pretty skiing!

That said, I love a bit of afternoon slush...
Our second time there - group of mid 50's Uni mates - we have skiied many places in 30 odd years - Eu and N America East and West - it has really impressed our group.

Already looking to rebook Val but earlier - probably late Jan - for next year...

Also looking to visit in the summer with a bit of a road trip with Mrs R1 - it is a very pretty place!

10C in Flaine this morning. Snow surprisingly good considering although yesterday was a very weird mix of powder and slush which quickly turned into slushy moguls. Felt a little sorry for the beginner's.

Meant to be a good dump of snow tonight and colder temps from tomorrow.

Latest model suggests the front coming into the northwestern alps will be slightly delayed meaning the cold air from the north will have chance to set in = low snowline. Down to 1,000m and 2 metres of snow incoming....

Hope you are right. There are 20 of us that always go to Les Arcs at Easter, had great spring snow for a decade, was worried this might be the end of it, but a big dump now will set it up nicely.
We're going to Les Arcs in the first week of Easter as well! Went to La Plagne last year and it was amazing smile A bit slushy in the afternoons, but the morning skiing was top notch

Am I the only person here who loves slush?

Wear wide, well-waxed skis that love bumps, and it's some of the best skiing one can have!

We go late, every year, in freeze-thaw conditions. I spend the morning on the frozen hardpack on razor-edged slalom skis, having huge fun working on SL turns, then from late morning put on my ancient pair of Whitedot Preachers and have a blast.

I can ski pretty much any conditions, my main concern is what the weather is like for lunch LOL.

Not really HF. Spent my childhood skiing at late March half term and i’ll take prime Jan/Feb conditions over that any day of the week. If I want a sun tan I’ll go to the beach…

I'm doing one more trip this year specifically for spring skiing. Love the slushy carving, followed by sunny beers on the patio at the bottom.

Depends on the slush.

Can't say I really love the really wet, sticky stuff/water skiing but if you get conditions like half term where the over night low is +5C it's much nicer than fresh snow that's had a few days of thaw/freeze to form a good crust.

Slush is good in a mojito

Nowhere else for me.

As a part time boarder it is particularly unpleasant to sit on (just over the brow of a rise) when we look cool.

Anyone able to help with a ski pass claim with Grand Massif insurers ? They're asking for the following:

"The snow report published by an approved organisation concerning the resort itself if it is a member or if it is not the nearest resort as the crow flies or by the Policyholder"

We were there at xmas and were affected by the torrential rains which closed most of the GM for 3 days. No joy getting a response from GM themselves who've bounced it to the insurers who are proving to be the usual pain in the ass, compounded by also being French. Probably won't bother with this type of insurance in future. I'm guessing they want a published report for the actual days and google can't find anything specific rather than averages.

I'd just send them a link to the official Grand Massif Facebook page - they confirmed it was closed over the New Year period. I highly doubt they are going to ask for more evidence than that.... (example below)

Unfortunately they didn't post anything between the 19th and 26th of December which is when we were affected, they only started posting about closures from the 31st on.

Currently in Serfaus, Austria.

It snowed Saturday night into Sunday, so whiteout but great powder. That was beaten at night, so yesterday was sunny and good conditions.

Woken this morning to heavy snowfall - continuing - with about 15 cm in the village now. There was no snow at all when I went to bed last night.

A later start today then as vis will be next to zero.

Goes to show looking at the forecast really is silly, but it won't stop me doing it.
Meribel all of a sudden looking much more agreeable for my week: https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/6692267

Snap!

Will be happier once I can see the first week in April on the forecast.... but as you say it changes on a daily basis anyway!
