Off to Obergurgl on Saturday with my new Burton Step on boots and bindings, it's a total blizzard there today. Can't wait.
Be interested to hear how you get on. Been thinking of taking the plunge now that there seems to be a few boot options available.

Will do, I went with Burton Photon Boots, with a set of Re:Flex bindings:

Got a great deal on them too from these guys: https://www.routeone.co.uk/

The other issue is trying to find them, seems they've sold out everywhere.

Must. Resist....:-)

Silly question but do they run to the same size as other Burton bindings? So I *could* just order the same size as my cartels?

The thing that holds me back is my current boots are easily the most comfortable and supporting boots I've ever ridden so I'd be a bit sad to stick them on the shelf!

I'm a 9 which fits perfectly, a 9 boot needs a medium binding and male, they all need to match. That's why I stuck to Burton. Microsoft Edge applied a mystery coupon and gave me £65 discount so £600 for both Inc delivery, bargain clap

British Columbia Interior is fantastic. 7 Metres of snow so far at Silver Star. Always 2 weeks minimum for us because of the distance. It's an extra slog from Scotland, three flights, four airports, sometimes 23-24 hrs travel. But well worth it.
Love skiing the Rockies and always go for two weeks as no point for one week.
Scenery is breathtaking.
I love the soulless Banff,Fernie and Co and bland food.

Always snow never comes to our mind that there maybe no snow.
8 1/2 hour flight direct from LHR don’t see it a problem.

Each to their own though.
From Scotland too; done Whistler quite a few times but never interior BC; but I do ski the Rockies every so often in Colorado as well as the annual Lake Tahoe/Heavenly trip (have a timeshare there)...but that's the High Sierras not the Rockies wink But with the drive up from SF, Heavenly is not far short of 24 hours door-to-door for me.

I was out in Vail in February just for a week; one of the best ski-weeks ever in my 59 years on snow (which make me older than that!). I don't find a week a problem for trips to the US/Canada...but then again at my age if it ain't business class and a flat bed on the transatlantic I ain't going wink And now I'm not working we can do a couple of weeks at Easter. Off to Heavenly for the annual end-of-season trip in April again - I choose that time as you usually get most days sunny and warm, and they keep the snow in decent condition although it is 'spring skiing' for sure with maybe a few inches of fresh snow overnight every so often. But always a nice way to end a (Northern hemisphere) season. So now's the time when I'm starting to look at pictures and forecasts - last year the snow we were skiing on had really all fallen in January; there had been precious little to top it up in Feb and March but it was decent enough.

This year though - hell's teeth - 530" (44 feet!) of snow and still falling by the bucket load. While all the runs are open they're still having to keep digging-out most of the uplift. On one of the web cams it points at a piste signpost - Tahoe style it's a wooden marker waaay above head height - folks can usually just tap it with their ski pole. It's gone...buried; I've never seen that before. They're even having to clear snow under some of the chairlift runs between towers! Not so much 'will there be snow in April' now, as will we actually be able to get there, as the roads have been closed quite a few times...and the 'mercans are pretty good and keeping them open and allow folks through with chains or 4x4s (unlike Scotland where they just close snow-gates, grrrr...but that's a gripe for another day).

Am I the only person here who loves slush?

Wear wide, well-waxed skis that love bumps, and it's some of the best skiing one can have!

We go late, every year, in freeze-thaw conditions. I spend the morning on the frozen hardpack on razor-edged slalom skis, having huge fun working on SL turns, then from late morning put on my ancient pair of Whitedot Preachers and have a blast.

I've a slush lover too. Much prefer this to ice!

Thanks both, hugely appreciated - sounds very much up my street (wide/modest pitch works for me currently).

Some eye-watering rates being asked in 1850 even now (drawback of flying solo I guess), but some potential options too. I've timed out this evening but will try to get off the pot tomorrow. smile
If Courchevel is the target ski zone but prices out of range then La Tania is a good bet to check out and pretty rapid into the full Courchevel valley in the morning. Stayed on a long weekend many moons ago and it was perfect for us in terms of slope access etc.

Yeah what’s not to love about snow. Surely that’s what we go for. One thing we never worry about if there’s any brown areas or it’s possible pissing down.
Love it.

We only do two weeks flying via Amsters from UK the. Direct to Calgary. Easy travel. Well wasn’t great on way home with screaming brats.
But I love the life over there, everyone is so relaxed. Maybe the weed you can smoke. Not for me though.
Super friendly y though

I give it 2 days before you're stood with the skiers at the top of each chair tutting about having to wait for classic, strap in borders smile
Lol, certainly my situation last week in Obergurgl. Great place. Even better because there's so few strap-in boarders.

Courchevel 1850.

Courchevel tends to have the best piste-bashed slopes in the 3V's imo. You can get up really high. The base resort being circa 1800m gives you a good chance of minimal slush for the run back 'home'. Wide pistes with easy/modest pitch (if that is what you want to ski).

Only issue is the cost, but you aren't going in a peak week.
This is a great shout. And you can bust over to VT too.
And get stuck in the queues at Meribel on the way back if you're not careful. Need to get a move on.

I borrowed a pair for a day about a month ago. (I think they were clash?) I only skied them off piste and didn't go near a piste and it's always difficult to rate them based on one day conditions. They rode well in powder and had decent float, not much difference in the soft stuff to a Soul 7 or Volkl mantra, but as I said no idea what they are like on piste, which is where the major differences are....

The only other thing is your post got me googling them and they appear to be very cheap indeed, for what appears to be a decent all mountain ski with 100mm+ under foot.

Yeah, they've got some nice colourways coming out next year (snow camo for off piste, pink camo for the 99). I guess I'll try and demo some and see what they are like.

Finally started to get/gel with my skis though and making them pop abit more.

Off piste snow at tignes/val d is currently slow or hard

Snow camo for off piste because it's far too easy to find a lost ski at the moment?

Oh I agree but they do look nice though... plus there's always powder ribbons and I've got the disc tracker things (same principle as avalanche transceivers but obviously different frequency)

I'll get some pics to share

Terrible.
Friday was a slush fest from 11am on with temps hitting 15c and no snow forecast for the next week or so.
I think their season is over.
Runs into Fiss had green grass either side and the south facing valley opposite was completely green. frown

Utter game changer these Step On's, the whole thing is much more responsive and easier to turn. Within an hour I was off the lift before Mrs Shunt had even thought about getting her skis on. Brilliant kit.
