Wasn't it supposed to be raining in Obergurgl, based on the forecast last week? We had more good sking today in the Grand Massif. Bought my boys a private instructor for the day so they could find all the powder stashes. They are nicely tired now hehe

Excellent day today in the PDS, after a day of snow yesterday. A bit off off-piste in stashes early this morning, but the piste skiing was amazing after the top-up. Nobody here, so took race skis out and played all afternoon, using the whole piste as my playground. Chatel was particularly excellent.

I feel this was a real end of season gift.

2Alps is cracking today

Went up first thing this morning and got caught in a huge crosswind coming across Cretes. Properly stinging your face. Anyone without a full face covering (including me) just had to stand back to the wind and wait it out for well over 5 minutes. Was not pleasant. I came down after that. Hoping the wind might drop tomorrow. I’m a good weather skier.

I should add, with the wind blowing everything off the piste it was all just ice and random piles of powder. Worst thing for me on snow blades smile

We’re at Kaprun, still snowing on the Kitzsteinhorn, yesterday was 25deg and started snowing last night to give a dusting at lower levels, tomorrow back to 18deg before getting warmer by the weekend again

I’d have said today was about as good as it got. Powder, fresh tracks, no wind on toura side. A bit of cross wind on the runs down from glacier but dropped off after the first 300m.

It rained last night till about midnight then started snowing, and it’s still snowing now. It’s very much improved the skiing. Yesterday it was getting very slushy.

For some reason the Bellecombe run from the top of Cretes was shut when I got up there. I was planning on heading towards that direction but got forced down Cretes instead. Not sure how else to get over there without taking the main Jandri lift from the bottom.

Thanks, might try that today. The children have now decided they want lessons so I’ve got 2 hours by myself.

Arrived in Tignes Val Claret after lunchtime today with young Prand for a few days, managed a couple of hours this pm with lovely blue skies but very warm. Lower slopes really slushy but higher up very nice indeed after a little dusting previous days. Up super early tomorrow to check out 3400m Grand Motte & Glacier, using the Funicular which is a snowballs throw from our rented apartment.

The French TV news channel showed the rest of France getting high 20s over the weekend. Up at 3000m it's likely to be pretty warm too. Whatever the snow conditions, will enjoy the sunshine after endless rain at home though.

First time for me in Tignes, I like the place, tucked up right in the mountains with miles of snowy pistes as far as the eye can see. loads of students around enjoying themselves, kicking out time from Cocorico at 9pm was hilariously noisy, lots of bars, shops, restaurants etc despite being relatively small 'village'.

The drive from Geneva is quite a trek still (I've been spoiled with the 60min drive to PDS), despite being no traffic at all on the way, prob a 2.5hr drive i guess but we stopped for some food in Bourg st Maurice that added an extra 30 mins or so. It must be awful when the road goes to single lane after Albertville/Moutiers on peak changeover days with so many big name resorts being fed from that single valley road.

Ah, enjoy!

In bold: yup, last year the 4½hr drive to Dijon took us 8 hours - awful!
This year we packed Friday night and drove down from 06:30 - busy valley but fast moving, in Lyon by 9am!
I suspect the right answer is to ski Sat, drive down the mountain and spend a night in Bourg….then drive out Sunday. Maybe next year!

Enjoy the sunshine, and hopefully the snow will be kind higher up biggrin

Thanks for the suggestion. Did exactly this and made it right up to the top yesterday. Was lovely for skiing.

It was picture postcard yesterday. Snow conditions were good too in the morning, and good all day above 2600.

I came down jandri 1 at 1630 because I didn’t want to queue for a lift.
Don’t do that.

I was tempted to try that this morning, but thought I can’t be bothered to take my blades off at the bottom. Did Fee instead, that was icy!

Skiing in just a t-shirt most of the morning. Went from icy to sticky very quickly around mid morning.

Nooo! I core shot a ski yesterday. End of season sharks.

Action shot of me skiing with the elder daughter today. She'd just insisted on attempting the half pipe - getting a decent way up the walls! All with balloon attached to her helmet.

Taking this pic was my father in law, following us. He's 83 - respect.

Icy this morning, which was fun on SL skis, an hour of amazing snow, then slush. 22C in resort. Been in a T shirt all day. Slightly ruined by having g a backpack full of both daughters' crap and Lady F's jacket. Tried to get all the girls to go out lightly dressed, failed, and got landed with all the excess kit. Standard.

Heaven today, really. Last day of the season tomorrow. frown

Final day of skiing for us today.

Ventured over to Hochgurgl and up to Top Mountain Star to take in the view.

The top of Festkogl was very icy first thing, Wumkogl was ok for an hour and a half before lunch then turned slushy. We came back across to Obergurgl in the afternoon and the lower slopes were very wet.

I much prefer the ice to the slush.

We have absolutely loved our first skiing trip. Learned a lot, guided by an amazing instructor for the week. Learned that gearing up with clothing suited for -10/-20°c was a school boy error.

We will definitely be back skiing soon.
