but I can't help thinking price wise we had it too good (cheap) for a long time.

Took the words from my mouth.... I fully agree... the good times have wound down for a bit I think.

just been made to pay £300 hand luggage only to barcelona. Not happy!

The only reason I didnt go ryan air via stansted (heard less likely for delays there currently) is because in the 3 days it took me to decide, their prices shot up to similar levels too. I'm gold for a few more months, so hopefully it will make it more bearable.

I tend to price up BA long haul flights with hotels. Prior to Covid they were extremely competitive, since then they've been absolutely ridiculous price wise not just on the flight price but packages. Everyone is outdoing them on the latter for comparable long haul flights and hotels .Virgin appear to be the first to have 'cracked' and started coming back to reality land, so much so we've booked with them this Sept for the first time in years.

Do you know this for sure?

Currently mulling over booking BA flights for USA next April/May but will hold off if theres potential for them to be on sale in a few weeks.

United/Virgin/Delta etc all release the flights for my dates in the next week or so but these days I'm unsure whether or not booking as far as possible in advance is the right thing to do on long haul.

These things tend to be cyclical at larger travel companies.

Can I see there being a sale, coinciding with Independence Day?

Absolutely.

I don’t know for definite - but based on my experience, I’d suggest that was the next most likely / feasible / coincidental date to have a sale.

Why would they? They don’t have enough crew to manage the flights selling at full price.
