It does sound that the media really are pushing the huge bad news on airports whilst on the minuscule but varied sample we have on PH the feedback is quite the opposite.
It was mainly a half term holiday problem.

Flying tomorrow from BHX - FAO at 8am

Last couple days the flights left at 1pm yesterday.. meant to leave at 8:15am
and todays 7am is due to leave at 9:20am it looks like.

Really hoping we're not delayed too long as we will have our 3 year old with us.

We have out LFT tests booked today for 12:00 and will be dropping our check in bag later on too.

There will always be an element of that. Just look at the food/fuel shortages. A problem is turned into crisis by the media, who then demand the government "do something"

A couple of weeks later it's all forgotten and everything returns to normal.

You’re welcome. I’ve never flown from BHX but just checked as I know kids zones are becoming more popular. Hopefully you don’t need it!!

Yeah hopefully so.. hoping our flight doesn't go over the 24 hours for the LFT to still be ''valid'' of hoping they dont check too closely if we do get delayed 4/5 hours.

Guessing you haven’t been vaccinated as Portugal doesn’t require it for those that have.

That's correct, we're not vaccinated.

Wonder how the summer holiday season will be?

More so as our passport has arrived so we can now book

Most of the food/fuel shortages were demand driven by panic buying though, a lot of the airport problems are staff shortages that are going to take a while longer to resolve.
Schiphol have just announced they're cutting 13500 seats per day, which is about 20% of thier usual capacity. It'll solve/reduce the queuing/overcrowding but I expect it will push the price of flights up a fair bit.

The media will do anything to sell news, partly I think because there's too many sources of news. And we all know that any bad news sells better than good, especially if it is blown out of all proportion.

I'm beginning to cut down on what articles I read or what news channels I watch simply because of the way that bad news is "upsized" all the time. The BBC are one of the worst for biased reporting IMO.

Moan finished.

Flying out from BHX on Friday morning so I've been watching the performance of the daily 7am flight that I will be taking and it's been late every day for the last few weeks.
What I don't get with BHX is that there are something like 10 flights scheduled at 6am and then another 5 at 7am plus others scattered around those times. How can you have multiple departures at the same time? BHX has 1 runway!

It’s the same at all airports. I think they know that all flights will be ready at slightly different times - and to say the flight time is 7.27am just wouldn’t work. Although having to load so many planes at the same time is obviously causing serious issues. A plane taking off takes a few mins - loading them with luggage is significantly longer.

I think it's a selected airport problem too.

Living in the South west, you either fly out of Exeter (small number of flights) or Bristol (large number of flights).

Exeter seems to be fine and I've not heard of any issues there. Bristol on the other hand is a mess and seems to have issues most days and regularly at weekends. We've just had to back out of attending a wedding in 2 weeks because ever EJ flight into Bristol on Sunday was cancelled. Every friend/colleague who I know has travelled through Bristol in the last month or two has had issues of some kind, mainly related to baggage handling and security. That says to me theres a staffing issue there.

I've been watching EMA and Ryanair and so far the flights (we are due EMA to PMI next week) are either early or a few mins late.

Dropped my son off at Bristol for an EasyJet flight late morning last Sat. No queue’s whatsoever. Was a different story for the non-Easjet customers on the other side of the airport building. Lots of queuing.

I decided I couldn’t be arsed in the end. It’s with United and they don’t have a reputation for the most stellar customer service. I managed to buy exit row seats for each leg for a couple of hundred dollars so that’ll make it more bearable. And it’s expensed so I don’t have to actually worry about the money (although they won’t spring for a biz class seat unfortunately).

Small bonus is I get to go on a Dreamliner.
Do you fly through Houston regularly? I have a United flight from EWR to CUN next month, which they have changed to via IAH, with a connection of just 55 mins. That seems very tight to me, but I don't really have much experience of domestic connecting flights in the US. Is it doable? Thanks in advance.

It was my first time, but it seemed ok. A lot better than Newark for sure. I was going out of the US, so no immigration to worry about.

Transfer between the terminals is very quick, there’s a monorail train than runs airside, so you don’t need to go through security even though the terminals are totally separate from each other. Getting from Terminal A to E took me less than 20 minutes, included a loo stop, and I wasn’t rushing.

I reckon you’ll be fine with 55 minutes if your flight is on time, and you’re quick off the plane.
