Queue chaos at Airports

It was my first time, but it seemed ok. A lot better than Newark for sure. I was going out of the US, so no immigration to worry about.
Transfer between the terminals is very quick, there’s a monorail train than runs airside, so you don’t need to go through security even though the terminals are totally separate from each other. Getting from Terminal A to E took me less than 20 minutes, included a loo stop, and I wasn’t rushing.
I reckon you’ll be fine with 55 minutes if your flight is on time, and you’re quick off the plane.

SYD-SIN-LHR this week with Singapore Airlines…
SYD security check was the big hold up, took about 45 mins to get through, but otherwise all OK. Gearing up for huge surge in travellers next week as school hols start.
Changi rocks, but we all know that, smooth as can be for the changeover, esp as screening happens at the gate, not just when you enter the general departures area.
LHR was 65mins from touchdown to heading for the hire car, which was just as well after enduring the bumpiest 13-hr flight ever… In fact it took longer to get to the hire car and leave the car park than it did to exit the terminal.

Good to hear about Changi. I’ll be there soon. One of the great airports. Carpet ffs.SYD security check was the big hold up, took about 45 mins to get through, but otherwise all OK. Gearing up for huge surge in travellers next week as school hols start.

Arriving back into Bristol on Sunday night was fine, albeit 2 hours late due to accumulated storm dodging. Bags were off before we were through passport control. But Geneva only had one (out of two...) of their new fancy scanners working so security took 15 minutes despite the lack of queues.
How about we form a group called Passport rebellion. Hypothetical scenario inbound.
Plane full of legit mixed UK Citizens with valid docs arrives at airport and for some reason 3 hr wait a passport control looms.
What will happen if said bonafide group just walks out past security/Police?
Obviously the 3-4 armed officers around etc can't arrest 200 people then and there.
Likely some offences committed but which?
Penalty or would they get away with it like the statue topplers and road blockers.
It's not inconveniencing thousands of people or damaging property..

Now, what do they do with illegal immigrants these days?? Plane full of legit mixed UK Citizens with valid docs arrives at airport and for some reason 3 hr wait a passport control looms.

No but thanks for flagging it, as I'd use it.
From the website it looks like it only applies in the north terminal and we're flying back into the south terminal so no good for us if that's the case, unfortunately.
Don’t know when you are flying but on Monday we went through passport control in the time it took to scan the passport. Gatwick offers a Premium Passport Control facility designed to speed up the immigration process, reasonably priced. I may use it soon because my legs are bad and walking/standing is becoming increasingly a problem for me. Anybody used it?
R.
My mum used to use the mobility service and would bypass all queues on a golf buggy.R.

Always happy to book prem security etc on short haul, as a hedge.

Easyjet - out on Monday early July from North and back on a saturday night into South. Think it's before school hols which will help.

Ours was South terminal in and out. Booked premium security going out (£5) but it only mad a 5 min difference as there were hardly any queues but I guess it will be different when kids break up.Always happy to book prem security etc on short haul, as a hedge.
Worst queues were to get in the food outlets as most were running below capacity as they are short of staff.

Was travelling from Gatwick quite a bit through Covid - strangely as we hardly ever used to and we travel frequently - and ended up at the first bar you come to when you're through security and in the terminal. The one where you can sit at the bar and eat/drink or they have a tabled section. Service was always fine but I guess now there's a much higher volume of travellers... Covid really was the second golden age of travel...
