Long haul plane food
Discussion
A lot of my business travels were in F on various airlines, sadly I never took pics on those but most of my F holiday travel has been done either with a friend or treating my Mum so I generally have taken some pics on the plane including some of the food:
These first few were on the DXB - SIN A380 Emirates service in F
Starter
Main
Pud
The food on this service was always excellent, I never used to bother eating in the airport as I knew it would be a good meal
By way of comparison, this was the main course I was served in F on the AA service from LHR - LAX, not bad but not a patch on EK;s offerings above.
The lunchtime F offering on the BA service from LHR - IAD, another holiday with Mum:

This might not be relevant, I drive a lorry and pick up at a large food place that supplies airline meals at Stansted.
If the outside/loading bay area is anything to go by, I would avoid airline food full stop.
Not irrevalent at all - you’ve nailed it. Ear before, eat after, take your own things - plane food is there to play with for 30 mins and ignore. Unless you’re at the front. But take the good value flights - add £20 of sandwiches/salads/ Plane Food - everyone’s a winner. If the outside/loading bay area is anything to go by, I would avoid airline food full stop.

Very nice and perfectly timed - you get what you pay for. These first few were on the DXB - SIN A380 Emirates service in F

I used to work for an airline in the catering office £15.00 is nowhere even close for 1st class. Probably double at least.
At least. I had a phase of flying back and forth to Dallas every 2-3 weeks - American Airlines in business. Asked a stewardess once the difference between the classes and she said they budget £6/head in economy £80 in business and £120 in first. Aside from the food - which was very fair - presumably offering free alcohol in business/first accounts for a chunk of that. Petrus1983 said:

Indeed you do... one of the reasons I enjoyed EK F on the 380 so much was the onboard bar area, made it really pleasant to eat dinner with your flying companion in an area other than your seat. This was another F offering, I think BA from LHR to BOS possibly, to get a Yorkshire pudding looking this good on a flight was pretty impressive I thought:

Alcohol is free in steerage too, of course. It's just better wine upfront.paulguitar said:

A Skift interview with a Gate Group exec details of the 300+ airlines they service for meals the approx cost of economy meals is $8 and business is $25 but both costs include food and equipment — the china, the cutlery, the glass, the napkin, the pepper and the salt, the tray - many of which are reusable certainly in business.

Who on earth is shocked that flying with TUI will mean crap food though? Of course it will be crap, you know it will be crap before you even board the plan, you are flying with TUI ffs! The same goes for flying anywhere with anyone in economy, short haul or long. Any sustenance you will be given will be naff.
I mean you say that, but have you actually tried EasyJet’s Pot Noodle? (No joke, it’s actually on the inflight catering menu). One dish that surprised me was Ryanair’s lasagne. Didn’t expect it to be anything but awful but it was actually passable last time I had it.alangla said:
