. It's a lot less popular with beer and chips in the sunshine Brits and Irish than the other Canaries too which is a bonus..
Been going to Playa Blanca for a few years now, but decided to try Corralejo last year, it was dreadful, very council indeed, Playa Blanca streets ahead IMHO, off there again in 4 weeks. Carl_Manchester said:

Are there any actual proper 5 star properties int he Canaries/adult only places?
Used to live in Lanza and the 5 star hotels were of a 4 star standard if that some years ago.
I posted the answer your seek a few pages back. the two that are in a space of their own is the Hotel Botanico and the Ritz Carlton Abama.Used to live in Lanza and the 5 star hotels were of a 4 star standard if that some years ago.
if you remove the adults only requirement there's more options but they will lack Michelin starred restaurants.
hotels like the Adrian Navaria in Adeje, Rui Oasis Maspalomas, Rui Palace Gran Canaria and the Victoria in Adeje.

Wikepedia tells us Teneriffe and Lanzarote are the two most popular destinations for the British and Irish whilst FV is more popular with Germans and Scandinavians and as a generalisation that pretty much fits with my own experiences of the islands.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Just booked the lovely Jardines de nivaria in Costa Adeje for late April, was out there a few weeks back, the duque area is great as are the walks to caletta. Bring it on!
Been in that area numerous times and enjoyed it. I thought it was getting a bit rough at the edges until beach of the English in GC which has now made it paradise!!!!!!mikal83 said:

Having looked at them hotels, it’s clear the answer to my question is an emphatic ‘No’.
This is not a top trumps kinda thread and neither is the Spanish and Portugese hotel scene in general apart from a small handful that want to operate in the 700 eur a night market within Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona and Marbella. If you want a 'hotel' and nothing else, the usual suspects like Seychelles, St. Barts, Capri, Bali, Dubai, Qatar, all build all run hotels that go beyond what hotels in Spain and Portugal offer unless you want to holiday in the above places.
That said, even at that price level, there are not many hotels in the world, never mind Spain and Portugal that have won more awards and reader/visitor accolades than the Botanico.

Any other suggestions for places within our budget for mid to late 20 degrees as we’re not massive fans of extreme heat or 30s just warm would be enough with the kids entertained especially in the evening some kids clubs/shows.
If you drop the all-inclusive you can find somewhere.I had a look at Cala D'Or, Faro and Torremolinos earlier and they all say 7-8k for August. The cheapest all inclusive, 3 star hotel in Benidorm is showing 5.5k.

Eating out, drinks and taxis have all gone up considerably in the last year I have found.
Was the Amadores beach club expensive?Eating there was €60 for 2 plates of pasta 2 x wine 2x coffee and water.
Better that than €50 in some sthole beach bar in beach of the English.

Been going to Playa Blanca for a few years now, but decided to try Corralejo last year, it was dreadful, very council indeed, Playa Blanca streets ahead IMHO, off there again in 4 weeks. I spent six weeks in Corralejo last year in January and February based in the town centre, and although there was the odd bar on the front that targeted the lobster red, no shirt, overweight, looking for cheap beer, Brits, they were certainly the exception and not the rule.
Most people there at that time of the year were older ‘middle Englanders’ (and Germans, Italians, and French) avoiding the winter or similar multiple nationalities of young ‘digital nomads’ working from home. And most of the bars and restaurants were catering for that demographic.
Maybe it’s different in July and August and maybe it was because I wasn’t staying in an all inclusive family hotel where nobody would leave because they didn’t want to actually pay for anything.
But to say Corralejo is ‘council’ - well it bore no experience of any real council area I have had the misfortune to visit in the UK.

Depends when and where you are in any place.

Nobody goes to the Canaries for an up market holiday experience and if that's what anybody's expecting then prepare to be disappointed as pretty much all the resorts on all the islands do, and do very well is reasonably priced mass market tourism and all year round sunshine. But you have to work with what you've got and to avoid any Councilists or unpleasantness then hiring a car and a self-catering villa well away from the hordes in resort is the answer and that works a treat.
And yes, quite right. We've known Corralejo since it was not much more than a fishing village centered round the port and town square in the early '90s and seen it grow into the resort it is now and I'd agree, on the whole it's considerably less council than many of the Canarian resorts I've visited or driven through.

A couple restaurants in corralejo to give you an idea on prices. Has deff gone up in price a little since we went in 2020 but I don’t think they are taking the piss.
This was for a family of 4 fyi
Unfortunately, soft drinks are far more expensive than beer and steaks have gone up considerably on all the islands because you'll never see a cow there. Fillets are 25 plus, sirloins more reasonable but getting smaller.
On the flip side, a 3 egg omelette with choice of 2 fillings, chips and salad is 6 Euros at The Trafalgar in Caleta. Bargain if the year with mozzarella and tomato or ham.
There again, some superficially "cheap" places can come in steep if they overcharge for your drink and add 7% tax. Hopscotch, for example, display the price you pay.
