Cold and damp.....and grey here in the UK.
Headed to Tenerife tomorrow for 5 weeks. Hope I haven't missed the current hot spell.
heat wave ended in most places when the calima arrived.Headed to Tenerife tomorrow for 5 weeks. Hope I haven't missed the current hot spell.
calima has gone but location is going to play heavy so be prepared to travel.
E.g Puerto De La Cruz looks banging for tomorrow and is probably the place to be.
I'll be staying in Icod de los Vinos so not far from there. Planning on lots of walking and visiting the whole island. Probably won't get there til the evening though, then it's up early to drive back to the airport to pick up a friend.
Looking forward to a change in surroundings and to relax

Looking to go to Fuerteventura at the end of January staying at Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace.
Has anyone been to Jandia please?
Looking for a quiet and peaceful time.
Went a couple of years ago in winter. Nice area, quiet. Has anyone been to Jandia please?
Looking for a quiet and peaceful time.
We had a car so would go out exploring every other day.
The beach is massive. You can walk north up about as far as the TUI hotel.
Or south all the way to Morro Jable.
Speaking of Morro Jable, if you can get to El Pellizco for dinner.
Really good food at good prices. The chef is quite friendly!

We both enjoy p&q so we'll book it for end of Jan ish.

Strangely, when we returned our car on Wednesday around 10am, there were very long queues at all the windows and there were so many cars in Autoreisen's lot that it was hard to find a space to return the car. This time, I landed Monday, got the bus to Caleta and returned to the airport on Friday morning to hire a car for the remaining 5 days. When I arrived at 10am, there was only a queue at the Cicar window, so collection was ultra-quick.
Just booked 8 days in Teneriffe for the end of February as a surprise for Mrs Adenauer and to give her a break from the cold damp weather and long winter over here in Germany whilst the Ring is closed.
We've never been before so would welcome any tips.
Staying in Puerto Santiago and flying into Teneriffe South airport. I've hired a car from Autoreisen (thanks thread), and so far have booked a Whale watching trip and the El Teide cable car. Other than that there aren't any plans.

Pot luck with whale watching, we did two, first on big boat, two bus loads arrive from pick up points we were on second bus so best seats all taken, food rubbish, spent long time sailing to let a few swim in the ocean and then back to port, not good value better with smaller boat, better experience, better food and more chances of seeing whales. Both times we only briefly saw pilot whales though and dolphins. Unlikely to see large whales but when you do see them it is magical

We're on a small boat (max. 6 people) which is docked 500 yards from our hotel, so no bus trips and no running to get the best seats. Adenauer said:

Wife and I are flying to Fuerteventura at the end of January for a week heading to TUI Magic Life. We have been before but i'm looking at options to avoid the inevitable long transfer down to Jandia.
Last time we waited on the coach for an hour before leaving the airport, then the hour plus transfer before a good old wait at check-in at the resort due to the volume of people.
We have used private taxi transfers through TUI on other holidays without issue but TUI want nearly 400 Euro for the privilege this time round.
Any suggestions for getting down to Jandia for a reasonable price? Want to avoid car hire queues in the airport too as suffered there before in Tenerife.
Ideally we want to land, get bags, straight into a taxi and straight to the resort for a reasonable price and then repeat a week later for getting back to the airport.

We're down in Jandia 2 or 3 times a year. And always hire a car. By the time you've paid for a taxi the rental car is basically free and that's with a 2 week stay. Plus there's some awesome beaches away from the resorts that are well worth visiting over and above the opportunity for a change of scenery. Driving in Fuerte is a pleasure, never any traffic, always somewhere to park. Tend to swap between Autopluscar and Cicar. Both are all in no hassle insurance etc. Full to full on the fuel. Cicar is cheaper but you can get queues. Although last time there were none. Autoplus is a tiny outfit and operate only on pre bookings out of the public car park. There's a shed they use. Never a queue as they haven't got the people hiring on the spot making the decision about which car at which price and studying all the T's and C's. They've pre filled all the forms. It really is a case of hand over Driving License, sign the form, make payment here's the key. Never let me down.
The Mrs and I have got it down to a tee. She waits at the luggage carousel and I leg it straight to the hire desk. 9 out of 10 I've got the keys before she has the luggage. If I'm feeling generous I may well then go and assist her if not I blame a queue. Last time a few weeks ago we were on the road within 25 mins of the plane touching down.

Is that suck for normal Canaries weather?
And how does it compare to the weather currently being experienced in the UK?
It wasn't much warmer in La Laguna yesterday than it was in Birmingham. I had jeans and a jumper on.And how does it compare to the weather currently being experienced in the UK?
Last night was pretty Baltic on the coast I had to actually shut all the windows.
It should be back to normal tomorrow, as always, you can probably find somewhere to find the sun but looking at the mountain today the cloud is pretty thick.
