Fair point. Reminded me of the Jumbo Centre (Gran Canaria) and Torremolinos, but I guess I was expecting / hoping that there would be nice bits. Eg. Ibiza - San Antonio is awful if you’re not on a stag/hen, but much of the island is stunning.

We are off to Tenerife for February, partially paid for by EDF energy as we will not have big power bills, also no food bills and we bring back 8 litres of gin at £8 instead of NIcola bloody Sturgeon’s minimum pricing law, which was never going to work.

Goodbye to cold, wet icy February and hello to 20/21 degrees and sunny, yippee!

Hoping that the weather forecast changes for Fuerteventura- showing rain and cloud for Wednesday and Thursday when we arrive.

On the plus side we have 6 weeks for it to get better whilst we are there and it will be better than being at home

It's standard fair for the busy tourist bits. There are bits of the islands that are stunning. Being volcanic though, a lot of it is like being on another planet.

None of the Canarian built environment could be called pretty and a lot of it away from the main tourist spots is rundown and scruffy.

But if you go for the natural environment like weather and scenery and beaches then what the built up areas and resorts are like really doesn't matter.

6 weeks, you lucky sod smile

Have you a place out there then, or just a package holiday.

Is this meant to be promoting the place?! It looks awful!

We have rented a place out there to see how we get on and whether we would want to do it again for maybe longer.

Hopefully I will be able to get to grips with the Spanish that I am trying to learn.

Just about to hit 365 days with Duolingo and have just finished a 10 week classroom course too. Wish I had done it years ago smile

Sorry for the questions but as I'm looking to do similar next year, where's the best place to look for renting a place. Many thanks and enjoy it.

Was in Lanzarote end of last year and i was surprised how hot it was. the one thing that agitated me the most is that its such a long flight but yet there is no time difference with the uk. great experiance with rentals as no deposite needed and you can pay cash.
Eh?

That's massive bonus.

The most efficient way of getting to the sunshine there is.

Heading out there next Thursday for six weeks - and that’s after only having been back for a week after spending a month over Christmas and the New Year in Madeira.

Retirement is good, and should be even better next year as it was confirmed yesterday that my application for Irish citizenship through my grandfather was approved, so I will no longer have to concern myself with the 90/180 day rule.

No offence intended and it's a serious question because I'd really like to know the answer.

What on earth is there to do for two months in any of the Canaries to keep anybody from going stir crazy? We've been several dozen times to most of the islands and love the warmth and the food and the beaches and laid back lifestyle but even though we read and go for loads of walks and do something or go somewhere different everyday the most I can manage is three weeks at a time before I'm bored stiff and looking forward to coming home again.

Mrs JS would happily spend a couple of months there in winter and there's nothing stopping us but I'm not agreeing to that anytime soon.

I guess it depends on what you do during winter in the UK. If you are in the garage working in your car, or other hobbies, then I can totally see your point.

We are trying 6 weeks and will be going off walking (which we do at home) and just chilling in the sun in the afternoons (hopefully). I think we will miss the social aspect although our all our kids and partners are coming out for some of the time.

It might not suit us but unless you try, you don’t know.

I have to agree that doing two months in one place would probably do my head in but you have to ask yourself what would you be doing anyway?

I'm not one for watching TV on holiday or cooking because that is essentially no longer a holiday. However, if you approach it from the view of doing what you do at home but in the sun then it beats lashing rain and cold any day of the week.

You could mix it up by spending a couple of weeks on different islands, of course.

2 months in one place in winter.......that would be either your home I guess or somwhere warmer....a lot warmer. At home in jan. If we want to go for a long hike, first check the weather report. Mon nope...rain all day, tuesday then, nope windy as ...., OK wed then, maybe but clear for an hr maybe. THEN when you have a clear hour or two, spend 20 mins wrapping up like an Eskimo..(can we say that anymore), then go out. Canaries ...as an example, t shirt, shorts and sandals of off you go. Or catch a bus to somewhere and walk around there....or sit outside and read a book, watch the telly if you want...VPN's are easy sorry BBCiplayer but I pay my licence so why the feck cant I watch you were I WANT! bds.

You dont HAVE to walk/hike/swim/shop/do feck all.....but you CAN!
