saw a fantastic looking cruise for Sept. 31 nights Southampton - Canada - US - Southampton for £2,300. Wouldn't want inside for that length of time but still seems staggeringly good value

sadly Mil would not cope with us being away for that length of time
I've done shorter contracts than that.https://www.pocruises.com/find-a-cruise/R318/R318

This one in April, looking forward to it. Gone for a Yacht Club cabin, quite looking forward to it!

Talk to me about cruises to the fjords.
What are the pros/cons re a ship that holds 3000 passengers re one that holds 5000 ?
Does the smaller ship get to different places ?
Yes, thats pretty much it.What are the pros/cons re a ship that holds 3000 passengers re one that holds 5000 ?

I've also heard that with some of the really big ships, the jettys they port at can only hold a certain amount of people so disembarkation can be slow. I "assume" that would only really be a problem at peak summer times.
I wouldnt be adverse to going on a large ship, but my wife does make the point that it would likely be better on a smaller ship.
As always, if you can avoid peak school holiday times, that would also help.

From memory Bergen cannot take the largest ships. No matter, it's not the best port anyhow. What are the pros/cons re a ship that holds 3000 passengers re one that holds 5000 ?

Allesund is my favourite, make sure you walk up the hill.

"Some passengers might also find the floor-to-ceiling mirror at the foot of the bed, and as wide as the bed, slightly disconcerting"
well after looking at various Panama Canal crossings then transatlantic and Mediterranean or even a warm(ish) holiday whilst trying to make them work with Mrs DG's forthcoming trip to NYC with daughter we managed to stumble across something very similar... we've booked 16 nights on P&O doing the lower 3rd of Norway, Gdansk, a couple of Danish stops, Kiel Canal and Hamburg then back to Blighty.
We've heard both good and bad about P&O but as I can't see this being a beer cruise (unlike say Canaries) I hold out a modicum of hope that it'll be reasonably civilised

Take your waterproofs…stunning country but it’s rained every time we have been. Never puts us off though. What are the pros/cons re a ship that holds 3000 passengers re one that holds 5000 ?

I'm a long term guest of P&OSad to say it's gone a little downhill lately.
Nothing against football shirts generally, but I dont want to see them in the restaurants, especially the pay restaurants.
P&O no longer enforce their own dress codes
