I'm in the office here in Paris this week and I was reminded of this thread. OP, did you visit Paris in the end, and did you use the parking under La Madeleine?

Did visit Paris, didn't park there - only because we ended up staying in the 16e and the Hotel had valet parking....far easier!

Great trip though, not much PH friendly content.

First on/off Ferry:

Stopped in Ypres on the first night. Menin Gate plus Belgian Beer/Fries - all amazing

Drove/Rode around Loire Valley/Vineyards

Stocked up as much as new allowances permit

Left car parked in Paris, Yego'd around the Parisian streets

1250 miles at 24mpg....not bad all considering

Looks like a great trip. I've not seen those scooters before, but as a I have a bike licence I've always thought that a bike would be a good way to get around Paris if I ever find myself here on a more permanent basis as the traffic here can be worse than in London. How easy is it to rent one of those? I have a free day in Paris tomorrow and I haven't yet figured out what I'm going to do with it. I know I'll be grabbing a bunch of cheese and charcuterie and it can get heavy. Last time I did that I took the Metro back to my hotel - not a very good option!

Absolute doddle - download the app, load a few euros on your account, app shows where the bikes are. Such brilliant fun.

We've used them in Paris, Malaga, Barcelona, Valencia & Nice.

After lunch on Saturday, I decided to visit the Eiffel Tower, something I haven't done for perhaps 30 years despite regular visits to Paris. And lo and behold, there was one of those Yego scooters you mentioned near my hotel. Since you said it was fun, I signed up and used the code to get a 15-minute credit. If anyone wants to give it a go, you can use this code for a €5 credit: MAWGTW8ZRX

There was no phone holder on the scooter and I normally get around Paris by Metro or Taxi, so I didn't go the most efficient way. I ended up heading towards the Arc de Triomphe before I realised that I should really be following the Seine. I'm a bit of a lump and with me on, the scooter only just had enough oomph to keep up with traffic, and the suspension couldn't really cope too well with the cobblestoned Avenue des Champs Elysees. But as soon as I was off that huge Boulevard, the thing became much better. I used up my new rider credit and then needed to add a couple of Euros for the journey. But it was much more fun than using the Metro - I'll definitely do that again as I'm in Paris several times a year for a week at a time.

clap

My daughter's 'go-to' when we stay a city with Yego is to bag one for an afternoon to sightsee. Great fun.
