Just musing on my part but how far in advance do you book holidays?

I realise early booking can sometimes get better deals but I find it really difficult to commit myself to more than 9 months in advance.

I’m always thinking anything could happen in the lead up. My partner or I could get ill, we could die or lose our money in a stock market crash or any such doomsday scenario.
If booking early it really needs to be a year or more in advance IMO.

6 months seems the worst of both worlds and you'll pay the most.

We tend to book late, limited funds and lots of the world to see so we want to make our money go as far as reasonably possible.

I do quite enjoy booking flights very last minute (days before) and only the first nights accommodation. It's easy then to go wherever I want and chase the good weather. I am not going on package/resort holidays though. This approach is definitely not for everyone.

Generally like to book in advance as I worry about not getting decent accomodation or flight times being awful if left to the last minute.
