We have decided yet again we are off back next year but only for a week but first time staying onsite at Disney combining with other things as I'd never go just for a week to Florida

Anyone ever stayed at Riverside or french quarter?

As with dining they come out cheaper than off site

We've done riverside, it's probably my wife's favourite on site hotel. It's really nice, quiet with great theming, wish it was a deluxe for those perks.
It is quite large, we were probably a 10 minutes slow wander from the main building.

That's we we go to FQ - you're like 2 mins from the main building. BUT - the facilities are more limited. FQ is a quarter the size of Riverside.

How far from rooms to car parking in french quarter?

As will likely drive rather than use the bus

2 mins. Although it's probably the same in Riverside as the "blocks" have their own parking.

We do a bit of both driving and bussing. Seem to have good years and bad years with the busses.

Just catching up on the Sunpass comments.

For the last few years Alamo have included toll fees in the hire car price, where it only kicks in on the days that I use the tolls. Has that changed?

It’s not a biggie as I still have a month until the flight out, should I need to sort something else out.

we used the alamo system this year and honestly id rather have gone to terminal B to collect the car and get the VTP as we paid alot more than we would have if we had the VTP yes its alot cheaper than other companies charging ie the ones that charge you days even when your not using it but you pay the pay by plate rate and thats much higher than the vtp rate even without the daily charges

next time im driving up from miami so i dont get the option

but do you really need the hanging tag? as you put the reg number in the app ?

We hired from Alamo via Discount Florida Car Hire as it was cheaper to go through them than it was to hire directly from Alamo. Toll fees were not included which is why we used the Toll Pass facility.

i always find alamo brits discount best especially if you need extra drivers as you get 3 included + spouse

currently discount florida car hire for std suv for when i need it £567 and alamo brits £558 paying now or £586 on the pay later i take the pay later and watch the prices and rebook if the price goes down

it was actually £521 when i booked the other day so its up £65 in a week

That reads like you got the Toll fees as part of the hire cost, ie they were "free" - you don't mean that, do you?

Last summer, it was $5 a day (but only on days you used a toll road) up to a maximum of $30 for your stay

I was billed about $80 for it about a week after we got home

We drove between Kissimmee/Davenport area to all the parks and around the area over 14 days and the total via the Toll Pass was £12.17 . That was an initial £7.90 ($10) to buy the pass then a second charge of £4.27 once the $10 had been used up. There is a non-sterling transfer charge from the CC company but that is only a few pence.

Very surprised you clocked up $80 worth. I know that Alamo add an admin charge each time you go through a toll without paying at the booth but that seems rather high.

What suprised me is that sometimes there's a big percentage difference between the cash toll and the electronic one, although what determines this variation I don't know. From our villa there was a busy way to I4, or a very quiet way where the last bit to I4 was a toll road that was $1 cash or 28c on the visitor pass. I think that's an exceptionally large difference though.

Alamo don't make a per toll charge - there's just a daily charge for the days you go through a toll. I don't know if they pay the dicounted electronic toll fee or the full amount.

ETA: Seems it depends on whether the car has a transponder for the toll, or it's done by "pay by plate" using a photo. Looks like the plate photo cost is the same price as cash.

I'm sure ours was something like $15 using visitor pass and that included a trip to Kennedy - but other than that, not a lot of driving around. Looked in email for the bill - $16.44, but obviously will vary!

I'm travelling to Orlando next month and will be driving round Kissimee area for a week, down to Sarasota and then around that area for a week and then back to the Space Centre. I've hired a car with Alamo so does it make sense to use their transponder or to download the visitor pass?

If the visitor pass is better how would I ensure that I don't also get charged by Alamo?

Also any tips on how to avoid having to queue at the Alamo desk when I arrive?!

Alamo offer a skip the counter service. We used it and it was brilliant. I know for a fact others queued for 40 minutes and longer.

We didn't use the visitor pass as we landed at Tampa, but if you are landing at MCO, I would get the visitor pass. I let Alamo manage tolls and I think I got stung to the tune of $125.

Thanks both, I have pre-booked with Alamo Brits but maybe I need to amend it to use the toll and ensure prepayment is done and I can skip the desk. I'll take a look

For the website I guess that I can do that in the app, I'll download that too and try and figure it out.

I don't recall doing anything once we picked up the vistor pass (had set an account up as part of the ordering process).

Just had a look at their FAQ and it says it'll link to the car as you leave the airport and you only need to go into your account and change it if you chnage cars.
