If anyone wants a laugh and has time to kill, get a Eurotunnel quote for a day trip this Friday
Is anyone actually daft enough to pay those prices?

Easy to save £100 on wine and beer buying in Calais (you'd probably need two people's wine allowances)
I'm not sure why the fare would be a laugh?
Have you read the two quotes above?I'm not sure why the fare would be a laugh?
They are for the same crossings in two different cars, I didn't opt for flexiplus it is selected for you once you put your reg number in.
Yes. Flexiplus is rarely worth it (I used to use it all the time, but now only when I'm coming back from southern Europe and don't know when I'll reach Calais), but that's different from the regular day-trip pricing (the title of the thread), which actually is comparable with the ferry
I know you don't like Eurotunnel, you've made that clear throughout the thread, but let's be honest about the day trip fares
I did the quote with my Cayman S and it didn't propose Flexiplus, even though I was logged in and usually did the crossing in that car in Flexi in the past
On the other had I just did it again with my daughter's Ford Fiesta and the price is still from £86 return, compared to £100 for the Cayman. Sneaky....

That isn't accurate or fair, I detest Eurotunnel.ps: I did the quote with my Cayman S and it didn't propose Flexiplus, even though I was logged in and usually did the crossing in that car in Flexi in the past
I am being asked to pay £492 for the same crossings in a Porsche compared to £100 in a Nissan, that is my problem not the £100 quid.
Out of interest can I ask what year your Cayman S is?

You're getting a bit boring with your anti-Eurotunnel crusade. There are plenty of different ways to cross the channel - pick the one that suits your requirements. Sometimes Eurotunnel ends up being the best option. If you prefer the Dover <-> Calais ferry, then PLEASE just use it and stop banging on about Eurotunnel on here.

I can't understand the tunnels pricing.
Me neither. I did several crossings last winter with fewer than a dozen cars, including one where literally the only other vehicles apart from me were French Douanes vehicles The airlines would be discounting like hell with that sort of distressed inventory
Passenger numbers are well up, 2 millions cars pa, 10+m on Eurostar (+ trucks and freight).
They can run 400 'journeys' per day, and with the proposed new rolling stock this will be 1000 per day.. perhaps its an under supply issue thats holding up pricing.
Pricing per journey is over the top in my view..
eg, May half term, Tunnel was £300 return Sat to Sat, Ferry £190, tunnel was always a little more but not 50%.
