Just had a WTF moment.

Did a quote for 4 days at midstay.

I don't seem to recall it costing that much for 10 days last year.

Stansted parking charges are one of my emotional triggers - absolutely outrageous considering it is built in the middle of miles and miles of farmland and transport links to it from anywhere but London are abysmal.

Charging drivers £7 merely to drop people off is daylight robbery.

I could park in Shoreditch for less.
Or Watergate Bay in August !

Thought it would be £30! there or thereabouts.

There was a near riot there a few weeks back. Two of the exit barriers were out of order and someone's card got jammed which resulted in the whole forecourt jammed to the gills. When people did reach the barrier, their time of stay bumped them into the £25 bracket to which many became rather vocal about with some pushing up the barriers for others.

Ahem, if you can get the person you are picking up to walk to the hotel / end of the train station there is a small bus stop where it is possible to swing round and they can hop in, thus avoiding the pick up or drop off fee. Its where the taxi drivers will take you if you decline the drop off fee...

You can drop off and pick up at the mid stay for free.

I’ve paid more for parking than I have for flights from Stansted.

That airport is solely designed to remove every spare penny from your pocket and is now far too small for the amount of flights it serves.

Can’t bleedin’ stand that airport but it’s my nearest so it’s my purgatory to use it I suppose.

This. Park in Stratford International and LCY is a much better airport than Stansted.

I'll see your Stansted and raise you Luton as the UK's worst airport!

Stansted was originally expanded as a Long-Haul hub to ease the pressure on Heathrow and Gatwick. Virgin (IIRC) were going to base themselves there. For whatever reason, that didn't happen but Ryanair rocked up and saved the day. The consequence is an airport that operates more like a municipal bus terminus with a constant stream of too many people there at any one time. Ryanair have significant influence on the economics of the place which has the effect of dispersing costs to all airport users, not just passengers.

There are plans for several expansions; a dedicated arrival terminal next to the current terminal building, a second terminal to the north of the airport - all of which have been knocked back.

It always amuses me that it's owned and operated by Manchester Airport Group. Awful place

To ease my pain last time I went on a biz trip I paid for the 'lounge'. It cost £38, the food was poor the drinks OK but it got me away from the terminal and was at least quiet.

Anyway...I guess it depends on when/how long you go for, but I was suprised that it was only £70 for a four day stay in the short stay car park in October this year.

Looked at parking at Stanstead last week, (for mid April) orange car park, £120, I forgot to book it.
This morning £130, I was busy and would book when I get home, I’m home it’s now £140.
Dynamic pricing I presume!

An absolute joke.

They have a monopoly and are exploiting it, this needs to stop.

If you are flying with Ryanair, the parking is cheaper to book through them via an add-on to your booking

Extra hassle, but you could look at parking in Bishops Stortford via something like https://www.parkonmydrive.com/ and then getting a train from there to Stansted.

Thank god you guys resurrected this thread as I’d forgotten to book parking for Heathrow over Easter! £150 for a week, which although criminal for the state of the car parking, didn’t aggravate me as much as the £120 or so it costs at Stansted for a few days.

Looked at lizzy line, but when you consider that’s still £120 return for 4 of us! Makes the extra £30 worth it.

My Daughter lives in B Stortford, I think she’ll have an early morning wake up call.
She also gets a .50p barrier charge as local.
It’s gone up to £145.80 this morning.

We are flying to Dortmund soon with Ryanair, Just checked manage my booking, all they had cheaper were the bus ride ones.
I booked with the official Stansted site, 4 days in the multi story green for £87, few minutes covered walk to the terminal. £21.75 a day is still a rip off. This Dortmund trip will be a regular thing, so i must do some research for a better deal.
We are both old and have mobility issues, so no buses or long walks.

Its STANSTED. I paid £87, 4 days multi story green.
Mind you their official parking booking site I find confusing. Check over a few days you get different options with different prices? On the plus side you can alter the dates, change the car, or cancel the booking at any time.
