Sitting in Lanzarote airport after a quick 4 nights break. Weather not been great. 20ish and a bit fresh at night.
First time here and definitely will return.
Stayed in Puerto del Carmen.. lovely resort.
So chilled out but with plenty choice of bars, restaurants etc.

Weather report: Really good today and yesterday (location dependent), even better tomorrow all over the island. The wind died down here day before yesterday but I think the South is only going to clear from tomorrow but then we are off to the races.

The outlaws are over and so, its a slow drive down TF-1 tomorrow morning and factor 25 by lunchtime for 4 days in some wildly over-priced 3-star accommodation.

I used to think they were owned by Russians but they are in-fact holiday rentals which you can book.

Seen a few news articles recently about the Canarians staging a bit of a revolt against tourists. Seems a bit odd to me, as I would have thought that tourism was what they would need to survice, broadly speaking.

Any locals seens much of it about and is it widespread?

I am in a sun-soaked Los Cristianos at the moment and I have seen no anti-Brit sentiment. I think many confused anti-Brit with anti-tosser. If you behave, nobody cares, if you're a lager lout, they do.

Spent all of February in playas las Americas never saw any anti British attitudes. Just the usual rip off shops and taxi drivers taking longer routes.

As said above what would the locals do without the tourist industry to service? Jobs in airport, restaurants, hotels etc need the revenue from tourists.

We spent about £5K in the month we were there between renting an apartment and dining out

Is this unusual. I thought that the Canaries were meant to not get too hot in the summer and stay pretty mild in the winter.

I wouldn't say it was cooking, it reaches 30 or slightly above on a good day but there is usually a cooling breeze.

Today was still warm even up in the Teide national park. Tomorrow and the next day is supposed to be 31 to 33 but then back down to 28.

Tenerife is really hot but there is a very thick Calima today rendering most scenery invisible.

Hi,

Currently staying at Sheraton (hotel is pretty good and general clientele is generally pretty decent 😁) at Caleta de Fuste, but I am looking for decent restaurants recommendations from the Canarian experts on this forum.
I was lazy on the first night and tried out Jimmy's at the nearby Athletico shopping centre. I should have gone with my gut feeling when I turned up. but my kids was hungry...Let just say the 4.4 Google rating is a tad optimistic, actually to be honest, it was fking awful 🤮

Do you recommend any restaurant (except Mexican, Chinese or Indian) in town? I am NOT looking for restaurants that serve large portion size / deep fried type places, just wholesome freshly cooked meals using quality fresh ingredients.

Showing your age now!! smile

I understand you though, as I went first visited Koh Samui in 2000/01, the airport was literally a picturesque floral shack , and there was a mini celebration for the opening on the first Macdonald restaurant on the island!!! KS was totally unrecognisable when I transit through it back in 2016 :O (showing my age too!!).

I'm no expert but have been 3 times and returning this year.

Algo Mas up on the golf course was hands down the best meal(s) we had while we've been, nice setting and really good food. Others rave about Nestors which is up the hill. The chef and owner is south American food was good but the restaurant is getting a little rough around the edges IMO.

Ascension was good too, a la carte menu surroundings not as nice as Algo Mas.

A lot of everything else is very in-between as you've described which I don't mind so long as it reasonably priced. Found the pickled palm really good, and there was a Japanese place on the harbour by the castle.

Algo mas would just be 5 mins up the hill from.the Sheraton in a taxi.

Love India has recently gone very down hill. We've eaten there many times over recent years, but last week it was appalling

1. Our daughter had finished her meal before ours arrived, took about 3 minutes for hers, and about 30 minutes for ours.
2. Garlic Nann was actually a Pizza Garlic bread, not fluffy and tearable, it was shaped and even cut like a thin pizza garlic bread.
3. Quantity was about a quarter of what you'd expect from a regular Inidans, Normally you'd expect maybe 6 large chunks of chicken in a Madras, I had 4 small 1cm cubes of chicken in a tiny portion of sauce. Imagine the size and consistency of a sachet of cat food.
4. When we mentioned all of the above to Mr Cheesy doorman, he shrugged his shoulders and said he'd look after us next time. Sorry, there is no next time.

If you do go, fingers crossed you have a better experience, but looking at other reviews, many others are also complaining of similar things.
