Does anyone have any recommendations for motorbike hire for a couple of days next week?

Only want a middleweight bike to bimble and explore on and ideally have non manky helmets to hire or loan for the duration too as I don’t want to bring my own gear.

Location isn’t so much of an issue as we have a hire car for the duration, but close to La Mareta / Golf del Sur would be ideal.

The problem is unpredictability this time of year , the calima has just moved off here in Tenerife, it hung around for days. it's been nice weather but we're glad it's gone.
I'll happily take your 'unpredictable' weather at this time of year compared to what we get in the UK.

I've just looked at Lanzarote and it is 18C there just before midnight (t-shirt weather). It is 2C where I am in the UK (very big coat weather).

Well its a steady 25 mph + here in El Cotillo gusting way above that. The dust in the air is nasty......You can hardly see the hills/mountains/old volcanos behind me just 4 miles away.

Only 8 euros for a Pret sandwich in an airport - that's the definition of an optimist.

Carl, I'm guessing that you live in Tenerife.

Obviously understand if you don't want to say on a public forum, but what do you do over there? smile

And are there any vacancies smile

Me and the Missus work in tech. You don't need to work in tech. to do a move though. Google 'Spain Digital Nomad Visa'.

Quick one for those that have been there etc. We try and get away for 2 months every Jan n Feb.....Canaries.... This year its El Cotillo. Tell me all about Costa Calma and Morro Jable. We know all about the northern towns but little about these 2. Are they too quiet, not a lot there......Beaches a bit naff? We are spoilt here in El Cotillo. Lots of beaches either side of town, plenty of bars/restaurants yet quiet and a decent supermarket...( a must have for self catering 2 months!)....

Both Costa Calma and Morro Jable have epic beaches. My favourite is the lagoon part of Playa Sotovento. The beach runs for miles and miles.

However, there doesn't seem to be much there in terms of entertainment though there are many large and often expensive hotels. I haven't actually stayed in either but that is because I have been to FV about 25 times and from my travels in a hire car, I haven't seen anything that might occupy me of an evening.

Some nice seafront restaurants at Morro Jable and parakeets and squirrels at the other end. Preferred by the Germans.

For me, I prefer to hire a car and stay in Caleta, allowing travel north or south, about an hour either way to visit for half a day, as and when. Roads are much faster nowadays so you can also visit Betancuria, Pajara and Ajuy caves. Cofete is a bit of a trek but well worth it though it is getting more popular.

Jandia now.

Very quiet, not a fat lot to do outside of hotel.

Lots of Germans.

Taxi to MY around 6€

Beaches, miles of golden sand.

Great chill out destination though

Just a quickee follow up. As we stay for 2 months at a time, car hire is out, mega mega £££££££ for 2 months. (which is why EC is great as its right on the bus line). The walks around EC are good as well, with Lajares and La Oliva just a few Euros away. Beaches are a must, especially nudist ones!!! Perhaps 1 month in either?? and for those windy days.....WHAT windy in the Canaries.....a roof terrace is a must as well.

I couldn't stomach more than a few days in either, to be honest. Caleta is also on the main bus route but is also a place where a week or two is more than enough.

You might be better hiring a car for a week ( around £100 through Autoreisen), touring the island and then deciding where you want to book for maybe a week. Buses are cheap, as you know so once the car goes back, you'll have carte blanche to move about without surprises.

Nudist beaches are just about anywhere. Nobody really cares.

I think I would be very bored in EC for more than a couple of days but people look for different things.

You might even consider ferrying to Lanzarote for some of your time there but I know budgets can be constraining.

I don't think the price situation can continue with hire cars, the Spanish authorities don't like excess.

What is mega?

I rented a car for 5 weeks mid Dec to mid Jan from Cicar in Tenerife for £650, which I thought pretty reasonable.

It was the cheapest car deal, a Fiat 500 hybrid but I guess they were busy as I got a convertible one.

It's cost me a fortune since though as I grew to love it so much that I've now sold my Dacia Duster and am picking up a new Abarth 695 Competizione tomorrow hehe

Back to the car hire. I guess if it spends plenty of time just parked outside your apartment it's a bit of a waste of money but I managed to do 3000kms in mine.

Expensive on the last day though as it got towed in Puerto de la Cruz and cost me €130 to get it back frown

Happiest Spanish cop I've ever seen as he held out the card reader. €50 to him and €80 to the tow company.

All us victims were tourists in hire cars. Good business hehe

Worth playing with the dates in a hire car. The price I paid for a hire car with Autoreisen was exactly the same for 10 days as it was for 7 days.
