Visited Side in autumn 22, and had a fantastic time with the family. Missus hadn't been previously and had a bit of a hang up on the idea however she was fully converted with great weather, lovely hotel and staff and some fantastic local history. Turkey is a great place and has a bit of something for everyone. The shops do like to get you to visit and upsell but if you're firm but polite theres absolutely no issue.

Prefer Russian’s to Brits biggrin

Are all North Korean’s evil because they are ruled by a murderous dictatorship? You see what Putin’s Regime does to those who oppose it? Grow up! The average Russian doesn’t want War.

^^ It is also not your average Russian you'll encounter on holiday, (mostly) sadly.

Hadn’t really considered the increase in Russian tourism/migration, and how this may influence the ‘feel’ of the place. Hmmm.
My comment on Russians being allowed to travel to Turkey was more around the moral and social conscience aspect of it. It's simply wrong and Turkey will get no more tourist money from me while they maintain this policy.

But they can also change the feel about the place, as others have noted from other destinations.

We stayed at Tui Magic Life Masmavi last year. Mostly German (and food catered mainly to German palette!), it was perfect for a family all inclusive. Kids had their own room in a two bed apartment type set up, which we struggled to find elsewhere - most places chuck them on a double sofa bed which I don’t think is good enough.

This year we’re going to Kos, but I’d definitely do Turkey again.

Obviously we all have different ideas of 'safe' but I did 3 weeks driving around Turkey last November and hadn't even considered whether it would be sketchy or not. I was more bothered about driving round Istanbul and that was no worse than Birmingham laugh

Going a little off topic but you can read this to see how Russians behave.

It isn’t Putin doing this (though his actions led to it), it’s average Russians.

Been here more than a few times. Perfect for the kids and with 'silent' beaches you can also get away from the masses

I suppose they could be coming from other countries but I can’t imagine fighting age Russian men would want to be transiting their border.

Guys, this thread is about holidaying in Turkey, a country that straddles Russia, Europe and Asia and therefore has the associated issues and diplomacy that comes with that.

You dont have to agree with going there, but this is not the thread for Russian War crimes. Theres a whole thread dedicated to that.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Russians. Step away from the mainstream news propaganda FFS.
We have been to Turkey over 10 times and there are often many Russians. They are absolutely no problem at all. Fine to talk to, they have fun but not in an annoying Brit abroad kind of way. I can say with hand on heart, I'd chose a hotel that caters more for Russians than Brits any time!

As for how safe? I probably wouldn't venture too far off-grid in Istanbul maybe? But your typical holiday destinations like Antalya, Side, Belek etc will be fine.

I've travelled all around Istanbul quite freely and with no problems - but that was before Erdogan started being silly.

From my experience Russians make poor bedfellows tourist wise, not who I choose to spend a hotel with personally so maybe a bit of research before booking.

We used to go as kids in the 80's and it was quite nice but went back about 10 years or so and it was hotel developer hell with added Russians.

Not somewhere I'd go back to in order to save a few hundred quid over Greece or Cyprus.

Surely it depends on where you go? I wouldn't want to go to an all-inclusive place (anywhere really) as it feels like they really isolate you from the country you are in. I went and stayed in a small family-run hotel in a village on the coast and had a great time. The locals were incredibly friendly and so welcoming - to the extent that we got invited into peoples houses for apple tea and had were taken to the primary school to spend half an hour talking to the class to practice there english. When we finished the kids gave us little boxes of dates and sweets.

It's probably different in bigger towns and resorts, but in rural areas I found the Turks to be nothing but hospitable and genuine

We spent a week in Fethiye last August (me, wife and 2 teenage boys) and had a great time.
Stayed all inclusive but had 3 days off site that were great.
All locals could not have been more friendly and we had a great time.
I literally couldn't care less about who runs the country when booking my summer holiday.
