Turkey still allow (holiday) flights from Russia.
That alone is good enough for me to spend my tourist money elsewhere (and I have made this change) while they facilitate that despicable country.

There's no reason to avoid Turkey at all. It's a beautiful place with lots to do. I would recommend renting a car and visiting Akyaka, Bodrum and if you have time Izmir.
There are no major concerns for safety unless you are travelling to a busy city, in which case follow the usual precautions for pickpocketing, avoiding crowds etc. So basically the same as you would do travelling in any other country.
There are local elections at the end of March, which won't affect anyone travelling in summer.
Like UK then.... sadlyThere are no major concerns for safety unless you are travelling to a busy city, in which case follow the usual precautions for pickpocketing, avoiding crowds etc. So basically the same as you would do travelling in any other country.

I found Turkey to be amazingly crime-free and felt very safe there, but then i didn't venture into the cities.

Back to Gocek in Turkey June. Big fan.
The more I spend on this forum the more I think many folk have crawled up their own arse!
Such outrage for asking about a holiday abroad. Who gives a fk about the politics that 99.9% of us mere mortals have no influence on. Go somewhere sunny, enjoy sun, sand, sea, family, food, drink, relax and come home - seems like that is too difficult for some people.

I love Turkey. Went twice last year and likely 3 times this year. The only "issues" I had in terms of other nationalities were symptoms of the popularity with people from those countries. We were all inclusive in Antalya last October and most of the other hotel guests were from Russia and Germany with the entertainment and food choices reflecting that. There are a lot of Russian immigrants in the area who moved to escape the regime in the country and many arrived for a weekend break when we were there. My main take away is that they take water polo very seriously.

Also - the assumption that all Russians are the same as the politics of their government is a bit insane.Such outrage for asking about a holiday abroad. The wife and I have fallen in love with Cyprus for all sorts of reasons, and the one thing that would stop us going to Turkey and spending money there is their continued occupation of Northern Cyprus and the devastation and ghost cities they've left around Famagusta - we just wouldn't be entirely comfortable filling the Turkish Government's coffers whilst we were there.
The Russian thing doesn't bother us - there are a fair few in Cyprus, and any we've come across have been pleasant enough.
It's not a hard and fast rule, as we nearly booked Instanbul in May, but decided to see Ibiza for the first time instead.
I do know loads of people who have had cracking holidays in Turkey, so we would have no qualms from a safety or security POV - just politics.
Seems to be a theme as the wife won't countenance a trip to Texas thanks to their backwards views on abortion. Shame, as I really enjoyed Dallas/Fort Worth......

I go to DFW once an year, usually during the winter, and love there. Knowing that they are against killing babies is a plus. bodhi said:

If it is any consolation, my understanding of the Turkish approach to central government taxation is to avoid as much of it as possible, so pay cash and shop local lolThe Russian thing doesn't bother us - there are a fair few in Cyprus, and any we've come across have been pleasant enough.

I thought that and am a big fan of DFW - great locals, lots to do and plenty of golf options - sadly as a man I'm not allowed an opinion on the baby thing.... apparently....bodhi said:

Cheap, fantastic weather and good food, really can’t fault it.
Our neighbour/friend did end up in the same hotel as erdogan back in 2016 when the military coup happened and was locked in his room with his family while there was a full blown assault on the hotel. Which was quite an awkward conversation when he got home as they had went on my dad’s recommendation

I'd no more go to Turkey with Ergogan in power than Russia with Putin and pretty much any middle east country. Probably not a popular opinion, but beliefs and sense of 'fairness' for want of a better word mean I personally will not entertain these locations as a holiday destinations. Even India under Modi is becoming no go for me.

You really need to read up on the history of Cyprus. Turkey are not without fault. But nor are the Greeks or the British. But to adopt a knee-jerk opinion that 'Turkey is bad' view is to miss an exceptionally complex issue that paints a slightly different picture to the popular narrative. Your Dad said:
