We’ve done Annecy a few times now (travelling from NE England) via Eurotunnel.
As others have said, it is doable from Calais to Annecy non stop but Troyes is a decent stopping off point.
This year, we’re travelling on the Newcastle-Amsterdam ferry then stopping in Luxembourg for 3 nights before heading to Chambery (South of Annecy) non stop which is a good 6-7 hours drive.
On the way back to the ferry, we’re stopping off in Epernay for 4 nights, which again we’ve stayed in - from there, it’s around 3 hours to Eurotunnel/Calais and for us 5hours 30 mins to Amsterdam.
The roads in France are so much easier to drive with limited traffic compared to our crowded frantic roads here in the UK - just avoid Paris!
