I have a flight back to the UK coming up where I change planes in Dubai, with a 6 hour gap. Obviously I'll have to get thru customs and out if I leave the airport, (I'll have no checked in luggage, hand luggage only) and get back in plenty of time for the final leg to LHR, so effectively I think I've maybe got about 3 and a bit hours.

Is it worth leaving the airport for a bit of a mooch in the city. If so, where do I head for, taxi or bus/train, etc. Never been to Dubai so wouldn't mind a quick explore if possible. Or is it not worth the aggro for such a short time.

There can be a lot lot of traffic in Dubai, so that time may get eaten up quickly.

I would say not worth it. The airport is a decent enough place for a stopover though esp with lounge access.

If you want to take advantage and are flying EK, you can book a layover up to 48hrs before departure. This adds a hotel for the night plus transfers etc.

Metro from the airport is quite easy. I'd be tempted to leave and get the metro to the Museum of the Future. Or go a couple more stops to Dubai Mall. 6 hrs is quite a long gap to wait in an airport.

If you're leaving the airport then you need to get through security on your way back in. Turns your 6h into 3-4h. Usually takes about an 45mins to 1h from landing to get out of DXB too.

I'd say go find a lounge to wait in.

Yup, I've scrapped the idea. Staying in the airport.

If you want to get back in quick use Marhaba Security - their desk is just the other side of the main entrance where the taxi drop off is.Cost £18 I think and I queue jumped everyone in around 5 minutes. Passports, baggage well worth it IMO.
