Anyone done this trip, Christchurch to Greymouth and back. The reviews all talk about amazing NZ scenery, but I watched a Youtube video and to be honest, it didn't look that great. I'd be doing the day return, 5 hours each way with an hour in Greymouth. Cost is about £230 but as I'm only in Christchurch for 2 days, I don't want to waste the money and 50% of my time if it's not that good.

If not, any other tours or recommendation for a short stay in Christchurch. Thanks.

I have done Greymouth to Christchurch and found it to be well worth it but, I wouldn't want to do it both ways in one day!

We stayed in Christchurch for three nights. during that time we visited the earthquake museum, which I thought was fascinating. Also took the bus out to Lyttelton, which was a good day out. There is also a gondola ride you can do near there.

The botanic gardens in Christchurch are also worth a visit.

No choice. I either do it in a day or I don't do it at all.

Always a chance it will be pissing rain half the trip too. Personally I'd head to Lyttelton or Sumner, less time travelling and nice spots. TBH you can probably fill in a couple of days in CHC without having to go anywhere. The air force museum at Wigram is good if you're into planes or machinery. It's on the southern edge of town, sort of.

This is also an interesting visit, the International Antartic Centre.

I did Christchurch to Greymouth and enjoyed it, but as said above, I wouldn’t do it both ways in a single day. It did indeed chuck it down with rain for the second half of the journey too. Greymouth lived up to its name weather-wise but we drove straight to Franz Joseph from there, so I can’t comment on the town itself.

Well the decision was made for me. Went to book it and it was sold out on the only day I could do.
