Place we stayed at they said 'You're welcome' so much I wanted to kill them by the end of the holiday. Hopefully the 'be nice to a tourist' policy has changed.

Don't bother going all inclusive - you'll miss out on many of the great places to eat and it works out more expensive. (unless you intend to eat and drink your own body weight several times over). Sandals pulled out of developing a site on the island as they wanted to make their beach private - a big no no.

We went in December and stayed two nights at Southern Palms on Dover beach ( £55 per night self catering) then moved up to Mullins Bay for 7 nights where we rented a garden apartment that we found on the internet.

The current exchange rate makes it quite pricey at the moment but still worth going.

As the other thread says take US dollars ( the exchange rate is fixed at 2BDS$ to 1US$) - they are accepted everywhere.

Take your driving licence so you can hire a car for a couple of days and explore the whole island.

The Cliff is at stunning place to eat at stunning prices - book before you leave the UK if you want a railside seat.
The Tides is similar and IMO better.
Daphnes is good for drinks at sundown.
BUT the best rezzies are the smaller ones. The Fish Pot is worth a visit, Groots is a hidden gem ( even recommended by Michael Winner - take a marker pen and sign the walls like everyone else). The best meal we had was from Dr Delicious - a converted school bus by the beach at St Lawrence Gap - fantastic!!

The price of Banks beer varies from $2 a bottle to $5 so shop around.
Don't bother with the Malibu tour and do be sure to travel by yellow bus everywhere. The fare is set at $1.50 regardless of length of journey and unlike the blue state run buses the yellow ones are often customised, drive faster and have the biggest sound systems.

It's a great place with lovely friendly people. I've been twice now and want to go back again.

Agree with Dazzled - spot on. And I'd add that the submarine is fun (based just north of Bridgetown if I remember rightly)

We will probably pay the 10% to go club (if available on the day) and get a guaranteed booking.
Looking at ideally 10 days.
Budget appx £1,000 each person and just seeking a nice place to relax that is secure.

Thanks Boozy (-:
What about renting a villa? Bajan Services have a good number of places for rent (admittedly Bohemia pictured here is a little out of budget).

Car hire was US $230.05 for 3 days including the statutory driving permit ( which I think was US$20.

Dinner at The Crane was US$337 (for two) and at The Tides US$247.The only other "smart" restaurant we ate at was La Luna at Little Arches Hotel and I'd recommend that as much as I'd recommend sticking pins in your eyes.

We were self catering so either went to the more modest restaurants around Holetown and Speightstown or bought fresh fish from the Government managed fish markets on the coast and cooked in the apartment.

A taxi from the airport to Mullins was US$25. Other than that we used the buses which as I said are fixed at $1.50.

The first time I did the whole fully inclusive thing and I must say that this last trip worked out to be much better value for money and meant we got out and about more. When we were looking to book our December trip the cost of all inclusive was upwards of £1500 each. We did it for £1300 each including flights and all the spending money.

How's the nightlife in Barbados? Is it more of a family/couples destination?

South of the island is like Benidorm. West coast is quiet and beautiful. Cowell etc have places there, as do Cliff Richard and Oprah.
