Wasdale Head Inn is at the base of the shortest and steepest route up it, not sure if they do accomodation any more though. I've done the top and back in 2 hours from there (with a few fell runners).

New and Old Dungeon Ghyll hotels in Langdale are fairly convenient.

If you're after some luxury, stay at the Drunken Duck Inn (near Hawkshead, google it) and drive over to Langdale for the walk (15 min drive). The OH and I stayed there for a couple of nights last week - excellent hotel.

Edit: errant apostrophe!

There is a fantastic hotel called The Brook House Inn. It has its own menu for their whisky selection biggrin and the food was fantastic, I recommend the lamb. Its only down the road from the river Esk which leads you to Scarfell Pike.

Also here's some pictures I took while walking along the Esk.

One of the Dungeon Ghylls in Langdale will give you the most scenic route.

All dependant on route really,

Dungeon Ghylls are good, Wasdale Head Inn is too, if you don't fancy them and want to walk up the more tourist friendly route then staying anywhere near keswick would be handy.

The Strands Hotel, Nether Wasdale, short drive from the base, nice food and beer.
