Tried this in the South West forum but it's quiet in there.

Can anyone recommend a Chalet or Caravan Park in the Newquay area. Looking to take a break for a week in August with my 5 year old son. Probably fly in to Newquay and hire a car. Don't want to be spending to much time stuck in traffic driving to accommodation. Child friendly with good on site facilities, good beach, maybe a pool are all on the wish list.

Any advice much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Watergate Bay was always OK.

Bit out of town, bit suspect in the evening on-site entertainment. However the shower blocks are always clean, the site is well spaced and it is a short walk to the beach.

I had heard it had had some kind of makeover recently (end of last season) and that some telly chef was operating down there?

Newquay is a bit of a nightmare in August, its like a Cornish version of Blackpool, full of chavs and pcensoredheads

You sure you wouldn't want something a bit quieter if you have young kids?

i would agree with ozzy though, unless you know many backroutes you do tend to spend most of the time stuck in traffic trying to get anywhere, the only supermarket (morrisons) is always packed, newquay is now very different, a lot of the old arcades are now nightclubs.

i do still love cornwall though! and a few recomendations from me: if you like go karting and are over i 16 this place is AWSOME!

i also quite like a place called morgan porth, slap bang in the middle of newquay and padstow, nice quiet village, quiet beach only a minuites walk away from anywhere, chippy, couple of resturants and shops, always have ducks on the stream running dopwn to the beach which the kids will like.

AVOID this one like the plauge...it's the only one in the area (that we could find a few years back for a lads holiday) that allows big same sex groups so ok if on a lads holiday but not really suited to family trips

1/2 hour of Newquay?

Try Porthcothan Bay.

Much nicer.

Thought you wanted to be closer.

Half way between Padstow and Newquay.

Few Camp/caravan sites there, used to be one on top of headland run by an old boy. Opposite side of the bay to the Tredgea (sp) Arms.

Google earth can find it.

Or you could go closer to Padstow and look at St Mirren.

Most places in Cornwall are going to be busy in August.

If it were me Id be heading down to Sennen.

Holywell Bay is probably one of the best beaches (IMO) in Cornwall.

It has sand dunes, a nice river running all the way to the sea which is safe for kids to splash about in, caves, a little cafe and even a shipwreck at low tide.
We usually stay at Parkdean which has a level path to the beach.

You'll enjoy it there. Not too many Chav types either which is an added bonus for UK resorts.
ETA, it's also near Newquay, but you'll need a car or Taxi from the airport. It's about 4 or 5 miles.

Our Dad took us 3 boys to Perranporth - a static caravan site for summer holiday many years ago (late 80s). It rained a bit, but otherwise I think it was a good place for us to enjoy ourselves. Have a look on Google Maps at the various sites located just above the lovely long beach.
