1700km today

In a couple of hours im going to start a 1700km drive to Spain.

Is anyone else apart from Rach* embarking on any epic drives just for a holiday?

Also, does anyone know of any nice places to stay around Montpellier (sp)in case i decide not to do this in one hit.

We used to drive down to our holidays in Spain from Blackpool.

These days just drive down to the house in France, that is the best part of 600miles there. Have done that on a fairly regular basis.

An average speed of over 60 mph is a bit hopeful! I did London to berlin which is only about 800miles and that took 14 hours! Including stretches of 140mph on the autobahns.

Thats what google said. Im expecting a hour or two more when fuel stops are put in and im expecting bad traffic east of Munich as its the first day of the Bavarian school holidays

Nope, looks like im reading Cannonball and the Driver again

erm, bascially hire cars were §500 for the week plus flights at 140 each. When i thought about it, wasting §500 on a car for a week when my car is only worth that it just didnt compute!

Last time i went out to spain the hire car was only §120 for a week.

Auto Europe - best car hire place I've used. Always cheaper than anyone else, you speak to a real person (American, usually) and the cars are there when you arrive.

Longest hit I did in one day was 1020km on roads far easier and less congested than the ones you will be on. Plus in something a lot more refined than a 90s Escort. Good luck, but maybe you are sharing the driving which will ease things, I was sole pilot.
