Ski accom, first week in Jan 2011

Looking for accomodation for a ski trip in the first week in Jan. Most package deals commence on Monday 3rd due to the bank holidays but some of our group need to be back for work commitments at th end of the week so we want to try to leave on Saturday 1st (!!) to get the most out of it for them. Therefore looking to do it DIY as some accom only places seem to be still offering Saturday to Saturday. Wondering if anyone knows of any gems, preferably self catering, that may be available for that week? Its for 9 people and looking to do it on a budget so happy for it to be basic. Preferably a central location to lifts, bars and restaurants, and decent skiing and apres. TIA.

Try Vaujany in France. There is a 10 person S/C apartment in Chalet la Fedora 3star. Village is on a steep slope but covered escalators there if you feel lazy..... or knackered!
Great skiing there (linked to Alpe D`Huez) although the apres is quiet.

You might be lucky as it's obviously on a normal changeover day but I would think availability will be very scarce as that week before and after New Year are pretty much the busiest week's of the season (especially the one before). If you find anything just go for it! You might have have better luck for the 2nd or 3rd as I bet some hotels will have bookings til then as people will not want to travel on New Year's day for obvious reasons.
