Florence, Italy - best way of getting there

What's the best route to fly into Florence from one of the London airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, City or Luton even considered).

I need to be there on the 24th and fly back into the UK on the evening of 25th for work - all the initial flights look indirect via Paris and Zurich.

A colleague has suggested flying into Pisa and then taking a train - sounds sensible

Meridiana out of Gatwick are your only bet if you want to go direct to Florence. Otherwise BA to Pisa.

Easy flight - train station on left of airport. About a 40 minute train ride with a bit to see en route.

Great, if expensive place.

I've done this, and it is pretty easy. I think it takes a bit longer than 40 minutes though, maybe an hour?

We flew Ryanair into Pisa. I think Easyjet go from Gatwick too.
