We've done the usual suspects; Stratford, York, Bath, Edinburgh and Dorest.

Where else is good?

Cambridge. Yorkshire Dales. Edinburgh and Glasgow. Dartmouth. Sandwich - PHer owns The Bell Hotel down there and it's lovely.

Oh, I totally forgot about Edinburgh, I shall edit the first post. Cambridge is too local, we can do that in a day.

Thanks for the ideas chaps, Sandwich and Shropshire sound interesting.

Something very different would be to spend it in "The Village", as in the one from The Prisoner series. Hotel or S/C was available when I went a few years back. Look up Portmeirion - it's on edge of Snowdonia

You beat me to it!! My wife and I love coming here. Its expensive but you cant beat it and once the day visitors have left its like having the whole place to yourself.

St. Davids. Some good places to eat/drink, loads of walking if you like that sort of thing, and you can go on various fast boat trips to see some wildlife.

tis expensive in the summer, but if you fancy a winter break, then they often do discounted rates. such as their winter blues (Nov, Dec and Jan) - £99 for 2 in a village room, includes 2 course dinner allowance, a glass of champagne on arrival for you dinner reservation and breakfast. or staying Sun-thurs then we've stayed for £75 DBB

Nothing specific at this stage. Now payrises and bonuses are back at work, I'd like to get a couple of weekends away this summer. But was sort of stuck for places after the usual suspects we are been to.

This gives me a nice list of ideas to work through.

Anybody know anything about Southwold area?

Norfolk broards, some fantastic little villages / pubs and landscape, as longs as you dont want to see any hills. Southwold area is also very nice, Adnams local brew also goes down a treat. Nearby is the purpose built victorian seaside resort of Thorpeness which is quite unusual and also has a great golf course if you play.

Belfast is a lovely city, and you really are no longer at any risk of being blown up.
A hidden gem imo.

We spend a fair bit of time in Aldburgh and Thorpeness - a touch south of Southwold (which I like less, Aldburgh in my opinion is a touch 'classier') and we always use www.suffolk-secrets.co.uk for our accomodation.

The whole area really is beautiful, very de-stressing, some lovely places to go/see, loads of great pubs, Aldburgh has some classy restaurants, some nice shops, and there are no chavved-up Nova boys racing up and down/amusements/etc, etc..

PM me if you want to know more... smile
