I require a hire car for a week. Pick up in Palm Springs, CA and drop off in Phoenix, AZ. I would love to get something involving to drive or embrace the American way and get a muscle car.

Any recommendations?

Have you checked the usual places online? I was in Palm Springs in September and don't remember seeing any hire places, though I'm sure there are some.

Escalade. Not involving at all, but still great to soak up the miles.

Lots of folk have recommended Hertz - The Toy Collection.

They appear to have a fair selection of muscle cars with or without a roof biggrin

I'd avoid D*llar going by my experiences, I booked a Mustang and ended up with a bloody Dodge family car, it wasn't quite the convertible we wanted for our honeymoon rolleyes

Get a Camaro from Hertz and your trip could look like this:

6.2 L V8 - awesome.

Over the years I've had a Corvette, 'ordinary' Mustang, Shelby Mustang and Camaro from Hertz, plus Chevy Tahoe for winter trips. Service has always been great. Only thing to beware is most of the decent cars are on limited miles and if you're planning a long trip over a short period it can get real expensive for the extra miles. One option can be to change cars for the 'cooking' version for long trips. The year we had the Shelby Mustang we picked it up to toodle round Vegas and the desert but swapped for an unlimited-miles V6 Mustang for a long road trip via grand canyon. I also recall that while the big V8 Camaro is limited miles there's a smaller engined unlimited miles model. Also we've found with Hertz you can get different rates for the same car from different locations in the same town.

In fairness some of the cars can be a bit tired looking, but they've all driven well and we've always got the car we booked. These aren't garage queens and it's a testament to US muscle that they still feel solid after been thrashed by pretty much every renter. Corvette the best car by a long way, but curiously the most favourable comments we got from locals was from the Camaro.

i was fairly happy with the camaro from hertz, was nice and clean n tidy

be aware if you book say the v6 or luxury car with unlimited miles , then upgrade to a corvette or something at the office the unlimited miles gets transfered to the new car

you can google for free gold #1 membership and a 10% off code , then another 10% back with quidco

325hp v6 is what i had, check the tyres have tread before you leave

Lots of praise for Hertz, only downside is that the best car I have been able to find on their site is a STS Caddy (not too bad as long as it is the V8) but I would really love a Camero. Is there a special part of the site you have to visit to get these rentals?

Thanks for all the help/
