Not really. There are 48 labour MPs below the line, so around 1/5 of the total. I wonder what %age of the population live below the line. (and how many Lib Dems there are below the line, compared to above?
The population of the UK is around 61 million.

I don't know the county layout well enough to say exactly which counties near the line are wholly below it, but I think we can safely assume that all of the following definitely are completely below it?

Bedfordshire
Berkshire
Bristol
Buckinghamshire
Cambridgeshire
City of London
Cornwall
Dorset
East Sussex
Essex
Greater London
Hampshire
Herefordshire
Hertfordshire
Isle of Wight
Kent
Norfolk
Northamptonshire
Oxfordshire
Somerset
Suffolk
Surrey
West Sussex
Wiltshire
Worcestershire

That lot has a population of 27.5 million, or 45% of the population. Between them, they return 18.6% of Labour MPs.

If you take Greater London (8.2 million people) out of the equation, then you have 31.6% of the population returning just 3.9% of Labour MPs.

You might not find that shocking, but I certainly do.

Yes indeed. That was the point of the carefully chosen line, dividing the country as it does.

I don't think it's particularly cherry-picked, is it? It looks like it's basically the Severn/Trent line adjusted for the closest constituency borderlines?

ETA - Maybe it could've gone a bit straighter between Grimsby & Lincoln, but being a rural area, I'd imagine the constituencies are pretty big up there?

That map seems very confused on the subject of the location of the river Tees.

ETA: Bloody hell. 70 miles wrong.

So a bit of pointless number peddling? I thought you would be wary of such things? wink

I suspect if you look at the electoral map you will see the reason why Lincoln is one side of the line and Grimsby/Shorpe are the other side.

Still posting that one day of summer pic?

I heard summer arrived early up north this year, on a Wednesday. Last year it was Thursday IIRC.
