May well have been mentioned earlier in the thread but it's surprising how many pedestrians (when just crossing normally) don't raise a hand or nod thanks to the drivers stopping for them.
What an Ill mannered set of bds.
Equally, your post highlights the immense sense of entitlement of many drivers, who feel they should be thanked for following the law. What an Ill mannered set of bds.
Perhaps, if one feels this behaviour is incorrect, a sigh or a shrug would be appropriate.

I am with GasEngineer on this. Whatever the law, it is good manners to acknowledge a car who has stopped for you.
But as a driver do you expect a thank you for simply obeying the law? I don't. I don't expect it, I don't pay any attention to any of that, I don't form opinions of it, I'm not entitled - in my opinion of course. Plus, pedestrians are outside on their feet, I'm inside sat down in comfort. They're making the effort, I'm hardly inconvenienced.

I agree, I always say thank you when I use a zebra crossing, or get let out. It's just good manners.
If you are the driver and the pedestrian doesn't make a gesture of thanks, what is the good mannered reaction? Is it to call them an ill mannered set of bds, or to do nothing?Alickadoo said:

(I have seen in the past reports that drivers shouldn't be thanked for stopping, because it enhances their sense of entitlement and can make them worse drivers when they feel they haven't been respected enough, but I can't find anything about that now. )

I haven't viewed this for ages, within a couple of seconds of visiting it again a moped overtook a row of stationary cars and nearly wiped out the people crossing.
Must resist... must fight the potential to get addicted again.
Did the people using the crossing wave and give thanks?Must resist... must fight the potential to get addicted again.
