What browser do you use edo? If you use Firefox, you can use an add-on called Adblock Plus and it blocks all adverts. PM if you wanna know how to set it up, it's what I use.

How does the add-on get around Youtube showing an advert before the main vid?

The advert comes from an external source, the add-on blocks this and so the webpage effectively just realises you won't ever receive the advert so just plays the youtube video.

it should be pretty straight forward, but remember it blocks ALL adverts that your browser sees.
