Looks like crap, now the one behind it, that is nice
I disagree. IMO it's different and quite quirky. thumbup

The castle (or Fortress) dating back to the 13th century at Kufstein on the Austrian/German is always a nice site for me, it's more of a personal thing because it symbolises the last leg of my 16 hour drive..

Phew!, now it's no longer a lonely planet biggrin I genuinely think this is one of the very best modern buildings in London, and that time and history will be kinder and more appreciative of it as it goes on...

However, The one below (sleep envy's posting) is truly awful, cliched, contrived and manages to transform french curves into an ugly form.

But this building below is brilliant. How many of you have ever walked past it, and never seen its 'other' form?

Gateway Arch - St Louis

I really like the simplicity of this (and the scale). It's nearly 200m high, and was built in the 60s.

The other crazy thing is you can go up to the top via either a small tram or elevator!

Otherwise i can stop and stare at the Chrysler building for hours.
I am lucky enought o have a view of the Chrysler building from my apartment and have stared at it for hours. So much better looking than the Empire State building which dominates my view from this side of the Hudson river. I have not been in the Chrysler building for years but the lobby was very impressive and the security did not mind me looking around

It is horrible isn't it. yes

Thanks to the fact that SE (among others, thereby rendering their posts fairly pointless) has ignored the pleas for people to tell us what they are actually posting, I now may accidentally stumble across this 'building' and be forced to gouge my eyes out from the sheer fuglyness. Damn him. grumpyhehe

I do however quite like the idea of the British library being a 'vessel of knowledge'.

A bit of an apology required I think paperbag When I look at the pics without titles I have been doing the old 'look at the pic link to see if there is a clue'. Clearly I did not do that with yours. (Nemo_Amsterdam)

Sorry paperbag

Perhaps an odd addition to the thread - not a particularly attractive building but one which is both instantly recognisable and entirely fascinating in its history:

Looking at that photo the room on the ground floor to the left of the arch is a gift shop today. You can buy postcards and various other "tourist tat" with lovely photos of Birkenau on. I'm not kidding. Was a very surreal experience.

It was going to be even bigger, with a series of staggered decks at the rear, but the politicos lost their bottle and pissed the money on less worthwhile projects. Same old, same old and a golden opportunity lost to gift London a truly magnificant building; so instead we got one that is just brilliant. I'll try and find some drawings of what it was going to look like.

Here's one that shows it at it's best.

In your opinion. It was always going to be a controversial one, but my opinion is that this building has more impact than 99% of the buildings included thus far. I'm sorry for completely ruining the thread for you.
