The very essence of the age of the great ocean liners, and the era of Art Deco.

Great topic OP.

That building scares the crap out of me! You would not catch me up there!
I went up it last year. 148th floor. It felt high, but I was more scared of being up 1 World Trade Center.

I watched that being built from the back garden, they didn't hang about. I also get an unrestricted view from the office (well when I am in the office I do).

Can I nominate a building that no longer exists?

Fonthill Abbey - private home of quite insane proportions (the tower is ~300ft high, the front door was 30 ft high and opened by dwarves to make it seem even bigger). But built with inadequate foundations for the finished product, it fell down mere decades after completion.

One of the most amazing stories I've ever read.

Some stunning buildings here.

London is home to a few unique buildings, some of my favourites (ignoring the more obvious historical ones).

7 More London:

I single handling designed all the public realm on More London as a graduate at ARUP. I have since seen the hazardous water reel has now been filled in!!

Since those early days I've been fortunate enough to work alongside some of the world's most renowned architects and their minds are something to behold. I'm currently a Director within an amazing design lead practice and pinch myself daily. Here is some of our recent work for those interested:

Erm..... you went to a thread that has not been updated in 5 years to quote your own post from Sunday 6th November 2011?

That post must have made a really big impact on your life.

In all fairness, it's a pretty cool subject for a thread for revival.
I enjoyed going through it on a Fri evening despite 10% of the images now being dead.

I'll add in Walt Disney Hall, LA is always a pleasure to visit both for it's internal and external architecture:

Bizarrely I was looking at images of the same building this pm and found a Google images result that led to PH, found it led to my own post and found that the image address had expired.

I was doing something else at the same time and must have pressed the quote button. Hopefully if you went back to the post I quoted the image should now be present!

What I find slightly odd is that I can follow a Google link from an interesting image to a thread that no longer contains that image. hehe

Have we had the Fuji TV building in Tokyo. Seen it in the flesh a few times and it still fills me with a sense of impending doom.

Another building which always takes my breath away is the Chrysler Building; overshadowed in height by the Empire State but so, so much more beautiful in every single way...
