Been there several times with my parents and it stunning. The whole area is, especially when it's all lit up at night.

Pfft at York Minster though, Lincoln's much better smile

Florence cathedral. Climb the dome and go to the top, incredible building.

Cologne Cathedral and the Hohenzollern Bridge over the Rhine. Both structures are very impressive but the cathedral itself is just superb up close.

Loving Taipei 101 and Köln Cathedral!

My contribution: Schloß Neuschwanstein, Germany. Inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Medieval cathedrals for me, awe-inspiring in the true sense of the word. Grew up near Salisbury and the cathedral always fascinated me.
Cologne as mentioned above is also amazing, just for the sheer number of fractal sticky-outy bits all over it.

Lincoln cathedral. Hate where I currently live for university and happy every time I go back. See it for miles and miles around. Keeps me happy. Back in it's day(Build started in 1185 and finished in 1311) it was possibly the tallest building in the world for about 250 years.

Lincoln is one of my favourite Cathedrals, maybe even number one. Also love Wells Cathedral.

The think which gets me about Cathedrals is that even today then have the ability to take your breath away; in an age when we are used to big stuff. I just cannot imagine the impact they must have had on people 800-1000 years ago when most structures, if not all were 2 stories, tops, and made of wood/earth. Mind blowing.

Not read the whole thread - apols.

I live on the outskirts of Glasgow, where on of the greatest designers and architects lived and worked - Charles Rennie Macintosh, best work ~ 1920.

There are some stunning buildings near us - glasgow college of art, scotland st school, the hill house. They don't look THAT. Fantastic from outside, but from inside, where you spend most time, is just epic. Amazing use of light and space.

Not of the same scale and grandeur of the rest of the buildings in this thread, but I think this type of building is pretty iconic..

Modest by some of the other buildings shown already, but it's local to me and I think it's fairly beautiful.

This would be 2nd on my list. smile
Been there and took some photos myself. When the sun is out the light catches and casts some interesting highlights and shaddows. It also has the classic beuty backdrop to define the location.

Did you take the tour inside the castle?
The grand hall is stunning.
