Can I nominate a building that no longer exists?

Fonthill Abbey - private home of quite insane proportions (the tower is ~300ft high, the front door was 30 ft high and opened by dwarves to make it seem even bigger). But built with inadequate foundations for the finished product, it fell down mere decades after completion.

Not of the same scale and grandeur of the rest of the buildings in this thread, but I think this type of building is pretty iconic..

Shirley this building needs no explanation! Can't believe its not been done yet.

I did a ghost walk there on Monday, Halloween. A place I have overlooked as a local, but loved the tour, really interesting to see there are 140 people living in a "village" in the centre of London.

How about this one:

The London Ark.

On reading the thread title, my immediate thought was the Sagrada Famillia.

I spent ages wandering about the outside, just taking in the many details, but the interior is like nothing I've ever seen - truly breathtaking indeed yes

Some stunning buildings on this thread. One I'm really fond of is the Lippo Center in HK.

I have to say, no matter how many times i have been, I find the roof and central Great Court of the British Museum captivating:

Something about the patterns and geometery of it. Also the contrast of walking out from between the big dark imposing stone entry archways and out into the white & light of the courtyard is a real shock.

(I also have a suspicion they play a low level of "white noise" through the PA system to fool the brain into thinking the courtyard is bigger than it really is, effectively by damping out the usual echo's that help us determine the size of things)

that was an utter fker of a project - every single piece of glass is bespoke

no white noise, we just had very good acousticians smile

Sydney Opera House. Like the Singapore building too (bug eyes/microphone one).
that's the one for me too

no one ever noticed from pictures that the roofs are actually tiled

the space planning must have been a nightmare - very cool considering the year it was completed

My contribution: Schloß Neuschwanstein, Germany. Inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle.
This would be 2nd on my list. smile
Been there and took some photos myself. When the sun is out the light catches and casts some interesting highlights and shaddows. It also has the classic beuty backdrop to define the location.

Did you take the tour inside the castle?
The grand hall is stunning.
You're right; it's amazing, especially in it's backdrop. I didn't take the inside tour as it was such a nice day outside we just went adventuring in the surroundings and trying to view the castle from as many angles as possible. It's also just lovely from the bridge above it.

I'm lucky enough to live just up the road in Munich so I'll definitely be heading back. I really want to see it in the snow.

San Marino Castle, just for where its built!

And in a similar vein, Chateau Queribus in the south of France

You can climb right up to the top, it has no safety ropes or anything! yikes The only thing the French do is close it off in thunderstorms! hehe You can see it from miles around.

IIRC across a huge valley was Peyreperteuse on a similar scale of limestone promentary.

Both utterly astonishing feats of architecture.
